Great news for our national symbol,
 the Bald Eagle,
from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources - aerial surveys in January and March documented 188 occupied nesting territories, 148 successful nests and 235 young fledged, the highest counts since their numbers plummeted 40 years ago.

Recovery is thanks to conservation efforts and programs like the Nongame Wildlife Conservation Fund, where Georgians' tag purchases and annual renewals benefit Bald Eagles and more than 1,000 other Georgia plant and animal species listed as species of conservation concern.

A law change approved this year will roll back the price of all DNR wildlife plates to $25. Also, more than 75 percent of all purchase and renewal fees will be devoted to the wildlife programs that depend on them.

We are truly fortunate to live in a country that is so rich in natural resources, with diverse habitats hosting over 900 species of birds!

Our state and national parks,  green spaces, lakes, rivers, wetlands, beaches, and even our own neighborhoods are teaming with birds and other wildlife. We challenge you to see how many birds you can spot this week! Post your results or photos on our Facebook page. We love to hear from you!
