Traffic gridlock aside, snow does bring in the birds like magic; and it was lovely to have a few days off last week to enjoy all the activity at the feeders.

We went through pounds of seed, suet cakes, Bluebird Nuggets and Suet Kibbles. But the most popular feeders were the ones filled with live mealworms. All the Bluebirds, Robins, Pine Warblers, Yellow-rumps, Carolina Wrens, Chickadees and more simply couldn't get enough! Even our Hermit Thrush came in a few times.

We also noticed several cavity-nesting birds (and one squirrel) taking shelter in our nest boxes and roosting pockets!

Thanks to all our Facebook friends that entered our Birds in the Snow Photo Contest. We had some terrific entries! Congrats to our winner, Bob Zaremba. The bluebird photo by Linda Robbins was also a favorite.

It's February, and love is in the air! We certainly hope that General Lee's prediction on Sunday is correct and winter is over!

The GBBC is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are.

Everyone is welcome--from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It's free, fun, and easy-and it helps the birds!
