If you're headed to North Georgia for apples and pumpkins, take the time to visit one of our beautiful state parks like
Black Rock Mountain,
Unicoi or
Vogel, or head to one of our
Important Bird Areas (IBAs) like
Dawson Forest,
Chicopee Woods/Elachee Nature Center or
Carter's Lake. They are great places to watch birds, especially in the morning.

Fall migration is going strong, and warblers and thrushes are passing through while sparrows and juncos are arriving for the winter. So don't forget your binoculars and field guides. Bird watching is fun for the whole family!
If you'd rather go on a guided bird walk,
Atlanta Audubon has a big field trip line up for October.

Not a morning person? Butterflies and dragonflies might be more your thing. They are more active on warm, sunny afternoons and can be easier for kids to spot.
Cloudless Sulphers,
Tiger Swallowtails and
Gulf Fritillaries are quite active now. If you're lucky, you might even spot a migrating
Monarch headed to Mexico! Dragonflies can be found perching on sticks at the edges of ponds or lakes.
