Remember to join us for our "2nd Saturdays" Monthly Vegan Events! The next event is this Saturday, January 10 at 6:00 PM. Our popular vegan potlucks and presentations take place every month at the C.K.E.L. Reception Hall on 2353 Rice Blvd. (near Rice University) in Houston. Parking is always available at Rice Stadium for just $1 per vehicle.

For January, our discussion topic is focused on Animal Law. We are pleased to feature

Clarissa Kay Bauer, J.D. for a special presentation with Q&A on "Laws for Paws: Animal Law in Texas".  Ms. Bauer is a dedicated vegan. She has practiced law in Texas for 30 years and was named a "Texas Super Lawyer". She previously taught environmental law at the University of Houston Law Center and South Texas School of Law.

Ms. Bauer is active in the area of animal law. She co-founded the Animal Law Section of the Houston Bar Association. Much of her current legal practice focuses on the area of equine law. In addition to being an advisor and volunteer for Vegan Society of P.E.A.C.E., she blogs about animal law at LawsForPawsBlog.com.

Our Food theme this month is "Vegan Soups, Stews and Slow Cooker Creations". The New Year is the perfect time for healthy, warming comfort foods. Everyone loves soups, stews and casseroles during Winter!  Both vegan and raw vegan dishes are always welcome at our potlucks. All food must be 100% vegan!

Need ideas for Vegan Soups and Slow Cooker recipes this month? Be sure to check out the "Vegan Soups and Stews" listed at VeganCoach.com or the numerous tasty "Vegan Slow Cooker Recipes" at VeganCooking.com . Please remember, you must bring food to share if you wish to eat from the potluck!

Also this month for the "My Story" feature, we'll hear from Houston independent pro-wrestler Andrew Bierbrauer (a.k.a. Andrew Lockart). Andrew thrives as a vegan athlete and wrestles on stage every month. He is also a Vegan Society of P.E.A.C.E. volunteer!

This month's attendees can also enter to win door prizes, including new vegan cookbooks. There will also be fundraising items available to support our outreach, such as coolers, our newest styles of short & long-sleeved logo shirts, bumper stickers, mugs and more!

All attendees are asked bring a vegan dish to share (a serving size to feed 8-10 people) in order to eat from the potluck, plus a donation of $2 per adult, $1 per child to cover the facility rental. Food must be labeled with ingredients using our recipe cards. We always strive to have eco-friendly events, so please bring your own reusable dinnerware, cups and utensils!

Newcomers and attendees of all ages are welcome! Please note that children cannot be left unattended at any time. We encourage parents to bring board games, coloring books and toys for our young attendees and all are able to use the playground.

Remember parking is available at Rice University Stadium across the street and costs only $1 for events held at the C.K.E.L. venue. Seating is limited to 100 attendees. To RSVP for 2nd Saturdays, visit our website Community Events Calendar.

Join us after the event each month for our "Vegan Drinks & Social Mixer". Vegan Hot Cocoa is also available. Details are announced during our "2nd Saturdays" events.

And, if you live outside the Houston area, please consider hosting a Vegan 2nd Saturday Monthly Gathering in your city or visit Meetup.com to search near you. We encourage everyone to launch monthly vegan events like ours in your communities and cities!

See you this weekend in Houston for another amazing vegan event!
