For September, our discussion topic is focused on Environmentalism. We have a special presentation on "Animal Agriculture's Effect on Aquatic Species and the Earth" by VSOP Committee Member Michael Battey. He has been vegan for several years and was most recently a speaker at our 4th Annual VegFest Houston. Michael is passionate about the connections between veganism and the environment. Come and hear about his latest research into this topic.

Cowspiracy Houston Also this month for the Environmentalism topic, we'll hear about the special Houston screening of "Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret". Local representatives from the animal liberation group Direct Action Everywhere are hosting this Houston event on September 25 at an AMC Theater. Tickets are still available!

Our fun food theme for September is "Vegan Hawaiian Luau Party". As the Aloha temperatures start to cool off outside, it's time to enjoy with an end of Summer celebration and tasty tropical cuisine!  We'll also have festive flower leis while they last!  Both vegan and raw vegan dishes are always welcome at our potlucks. All food must be 100% vegan! coconut

Need ideas for Vegan Hawaiian Cuisine this month? Be sure to check out the "Hawaiian Sloppy Joes" at ChefChloe.com or the "Hawaiian Ho'olaule'a Cake"
at VegWeb.com. Please remember, you must bring food to share if you wish to eat from the potluck!

Hawaii shirt 3 This month's attendees can also enter our "Cool Hawaiian Shirt" Contest to be eligible to win one of our new Vegan Lunch Coolers. There will also be fundraising items available, such as Texas Go Vegan Week T-shirts, Dandies Vegan Marshmallows and more!

All attendees are asked bring a vegan dish to share (a serving size to feed 8-10 people) in order to eat from the potluck, plus a donation of $2 per adult, $1 per child to cover the facility rental. Food must be labeled with ingredients using our recipe cards. We always strive to have eco-friendly events, so please bring your own reusable dinnerware, cups and utensils!

Newcomers and attendees of all ages are welcome! Vegan Society of PEACE Cooler Please note that children cannot be left unattended at any time. We encourage parents to bring board games, coloring books and toys for our young attendees and all are able to use the playground.

Remember parking is available at Rice University Stadium across the street and costs only $1 for events held at the C.K.E.L. venue. Seating is limited to 100 attendees. To RSVP for 2nd Saturdays, visit our website Community Events Calendar.

Join us after the event for our "Vegan Drinks & Social Mixer". Details are announced during our "2nd Saturdays" event each month.

And, if you live outside the Houston area, please consider hosting a Vegan 2nd Saturday Monthly Gathering in your city or visit Meetup.com to search near you. We encourage everyone to launch monthly vegan events like ours in your communities and cities!

See you this weekend in Houston for another amazing vegan event!
