Remember to join us for our "2nd Saturdays" Monthly Vegan Events! The next event is this Saturday, August 9 at 6:00 PM. Our popular vegan potlucks and presentations take place every month at the C.K.E.L. Reception Hall on 2353 Rice Blvd. (near Rice University) in Houston. Parking is always available at Rice Stadium for just $1 per vehicle.

For August, we have a special presentation on Animal Sanctuaries by VSOP volunteer Cathy Plato. She will also share the story of her vegan journey and lead an ethical discussion that will be very thought-provoking.

Also this month, we pay tribute to the founder of the V-Dog company Dave Middlesworth. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion with his innovative vegan dog food products. Dave was a supporter of our organization and always made sure there was a V-Dog booth at VegFest Houston. His vision of a better world will continue to inspire others and save billions of animals in the process!

Our food theme for August is "Sensational Vegan Summer Salads". Get creative with those recipes! Both vegan and raw vegan dishes are always welcome. All food must be 100% vegan!

Need ideas on what to bring? Be sure to check out ideas for numerous healthy vegan salads at VeganCoach.com. And remember, you must bring food to share if you wish to eat from the potluck!

This month's attendees can also enter to win door prizes from Tofutti vegan product company. There will also be fundraising items available, such as T-shirts, Dandies Vegan Marshmallows, vegan cookies from Alternative Baking Company, Earth Balance snacks and more!

All attendees are asked bring a vegan dish to share (a serving size to feed 8-10 people) in order to eat from the potluck, plus a donation of $2 per adult, $1 per child to cover the facility rental. Food must be labeled with ingredients using our recipe cards. We always strive to have eco-friendly events, so please bring your own reusable dinnerware, cups and utensils!

Newcomers and attendees of all ages are welcome! Please note that children cannot be left unattended at any time. We encourage parents to bring board games, coloring books and toys for our young attendees and all are able to use the playground.

Remember parking is available at Rice University Stadium across the street and costs only $1 for events held at the C.K.E.L. venue. Seating is limited to 100 attendees. To RSVP for 2nd Saturdays, visit our website Community Events Calendar.

Join us after the event for our "Vegan Drinks & Social Mixer". Details are announced during our "2nd Saturdays" event each month.

And, if you live outside the Houston area, please consider hosting a Vegan 2nd Saturday Monthly Gathering in your city or visit Meetup.com to search near you. We encourage everyone to launch monthly vegan events like ours in your communities and cities!

See you this weekend in Houston for another amazing vegan event!
