Media example of animal exploitation
Our popular vegan potlucks and presentations take place every month at the C.K.E.L. Reception Hall on 2353 Rice Blvd. (near Rice University) in Houston. Parking is available at Rice Stadium for just $1 per vehicle.

For our March topic on Speciesism, we are pleased to present Professor Natalie Khazaal as our featured guest speaker!

Natalie Khazaal received a Ph.D. from UCLA and is now an assistant professor of International Studies at Texas A&M University. The title of her presentation is "From Crude Speciesism to Camouflaged Speciesism: How U.S. and Spanish Media Are Mutating to Conceal Non-human Perspectives and What We Should Do About It".

NEWS Dr. Khazaal has compared news articles and op-eds in leading newspapers from English Spanish Arabic and Slavic speaking regions. After exploring the state of the field she suggests how a more informed thoughtful and responsible journalism can help correct the oppression of non-human animals. You won't want to miss this exciting and informative presentation!

Try out some decadent cookie recipes and flavors to share. Vegan and raw vegan dishes are always welcome. All food must be 100% vegan! Directly after this month's meeting, we will also have a Volunteer Orientation for those who wish to help at our upcoming 4th Annual VegFest Houston.

Did we mention door prizes? This month's attendees can also enter to win more gift certificates from local vegan restaurant Pepper Tree!
Lee Hall's Book
We'll also have a drawing for a copy of the amazing book On Their Own Terms: Bringing Animal Rights Philosophy Down To Earth, by abolitionist law expert Lee Hall.

All attendees are asked bring a vegan dish to share (a serving size to feed 8-10 people) in order to eat from the potluck, plus a donation of $2 per adult, $1 per child to cover the facility rental. Food must be labeled with ingredients. We always strive to have eco-friendly events, so please bring your own reusable dinnerware, cups and utensils!

VSOP 2nd SaturdaysNewcomers and attendees of all ages are welcome! Please note that children cannot be left unattended at any time. We encourage parents to bring board games, coloring books and toys for our young attendees and all are able to use the playground.

Remember parking is available at Rice University Stadium across the street and costs only $1 for events held at the C.K.E.L. venue. Seating is limited to 100 attendees. To RSVP for 2nd Saturdays, visit our website Community Events Calendar.

And, if you live outside the Houston area, please consider hosting a Vegan Monthly Gathering in your city or visit Meetup.com to search near you. We encourage everyone to launch monthly vegan events like ours in your communities and cities!
