Sam Scozzafava Previously Associate CIO for Administrative Systems, Sam now oversees Information Technology and Services (ITS) and reports to Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina. "ITS will continue to be a positive force on campus under Sam's leadership," says Spina. Read more.  

Syracuse University has seen IT security threats increase, and their nature is increasingly malicious. ITS is taking steps to increase protection of SU's information, including two-factor authentication, and an annual SU NetID password change requirement. Read more.  

 

Mediasite symbol The future of lecture capture has arrived at SU. ITS's Learning Environments (LE) group has been working for almost a year to install, test, and deploy Mediasite, a comprehensive lecture capture, enterprise webcasting, and video content management system. Read more. 

Information technology administrators from schools, colleges and departments that use SU's Digital Signage Network met to discuss an upgrade to the production environment and the possible integration of Internet Protocol television. Read more.  
Virtual desktop screen shot (partial) ITS's Administrative Computing Services team is starting to roll out a new virtual Windows 7 computing environment called virtual desktop infrastructure, or VDI. This allows users to connect to a virtual Windows 7 PC from any desktop, laptop, smart phone, or tablet from any location. Read more.

Senators Hatch and MarkeyThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Right Act, FERPA, requires parental consent concerning student information, except when schools outsource functions like data processing and analytics. Senators Markey and Hatch are pushing the amendment of FERPA to keep pace with the proliferation of student data that has resulted from increased technology use in schools. Invest in technology The future of higher education is becoming fluid as new learning styles and mounting pressures influence the education landscape. New strategies are critical. For the first time in three decades, the National Center for Education Statistics report in 2012 predicted a decline in population for college age students in the US. Read more at Fast Company.
