Since Tuesday there has been great hype in our office with the "Census Data 2011 " which was released, and our MD Gary Watkins has spent many hours going through the data and comparing the differences. There are definitely some interesting comparisons that have been made. We have updated our presentation of the EAP Data Overviews.

16 Days of Activism for No Violence
Aga inst Women and Children
The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is an international campaign. It takes place every year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). The period includes Universal Children's Day and World AIDS Day.
During this time, the South African Government runs a 16 Days of Activism Campaign to make people aware of the negative impact of violence on women and children and to act against abuse. We are firmly committed to lead a coordinated effort to sustain the campaign into its next decade.

South Africa in need of Policy Implementation that would incentavize job creation as labour market recovery remain fragile
The South African labour market's recovery still remain fragile, with limited jobs being created against a large number of job seekers, a Department of Labour (DoL) Report has revealed.
According to the Department of Labour 's - Job Opportunity and Unemployment in the South African Labour Market Report - the situation is true because the labour absorption rates in the country have remained almost 'stable' in particular over 12 months in the financial year 2011/12.
Through the report, the Department of Labour provides an overview analysis on the number of vacancies recorded through media against claims for ordinary unemployed received from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) from April 2011 to March 2012. The department also uses labour force statistics from the Statistics South Africa.
The report is intended to inform policy makers about the gaps identified regarding skills shortages in order to develop interventions that could assist to fight the triple challenges of unemployment, inequality and poverty in the country.

Bill review change track from BCEA and LRA to the Employment Equity Bill and the new Public Employment Services Bill
Deliberations between the Department of Labour (DoL) and Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Labour - to review of Basic Conditions of Employment Amendment Bill and Labour Relations Amendment Bill were nearing an and the focus now shifts to the Employment Equity (EE) Bill and the new Public Employment Services (PES) Bill.
This emerged today (October 30) in Cape Town when Department of Labour (DoL) Chief Director: Collective Bargaining Thembinkosi Mkalipi was presenting the department's concluding inputs on the two bills before the Portfolio Committee. Mkalipi told the committee that in terms of proposed changes in the Labour Relations Act, a third party could be deemed liable as an employer especially if his or her behavior was deemed to be prejudicial to the employee.
Mkalipi said the new amendments were also considering extending organizational rights to the minority unions. He further told the committee that in terms of the new amendments the Labour Minister would also be empowered to extend collective rights.
