New Time Card System

We will be introducing a new time card system through Salesforce this year. This time card will ask from feedback from both the student and the supervisor, giving the student a chance to let their Account Manager know what they worked on for the day. Instructions on how to use this new system will be distributed to all supervisors and we will be available throughout the year to ensure that there are no issues. Thank you for your adaptability!

Foundations

The class of 2020 will begin their two week Foundations courses on August 15, 2016. During these two weeks, the incoming freshman will learn the fundamentals of entry level work. From filing, to answering phones, to how to give a proper handshake, we are training our freshman to be capable workers for you.

New Cristo Rey Boston Staff

We are pleased to announce two new additions to the Cristo Rey Boston High School staff.

Michael Brennan is the new President of Cristo Rey Boston High School. Mike previously worked at Boston College High School where he held a number of key leadership roles over the past fifteen years as a teacher, coach, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid as well as  Vice Principal for Student Affairs.

John O'Keefe is the new Executive Director of the Corporate Work Study Program. John is a native of Ireland and brings a wealth of experience in business and sales, most recently serving as the Business Development Specialist at Congress Asset Management in Boston. John is excited about getting to know both the sponsor's and the students stating, "I would like to help others as I have been helped, and I believe Cristo Rey gives young adults a chance to succeed and achieve something great for themselves."

We are excited to have both of them on board! They look forward to meeting with you all and thank you for your continued support of the school and the work study program.

Student and Company Spotlight

BMC HealthNet Plan

Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan sponsored three students for the 2015-2016 academic year. They wrote an article and asked their student workers to reflect on their year there. Read the article below!

Cristo Rey student interns reflect on their year at BMCHP

"For the second consecutive year, we have partnered with Cristo Rey High School to sponsor students for their corporate work-study program. This year, three students worked here one day a week, performing entry level tasks and assisting with a variety of
projects. As a corporate sponsor, we pay a fee to the school that helps finance the students' educations. The students get help paying for a high quality education, and in the process gain valuable work experience that will provide them with skills necessary to thrive. The mission of Cristo Rey High School is to exclusively serve families of limited economic means, to educate young people to become men and women of faith, purpose and service. By partnering with Cristo Rey High School, we continue to support the under-served populations in the communities we serve and play a leading role in closing the educational gap. Read More Here.

Training the 21st Century Worker

I smile and offer the gentleman at the front desk my name and purpose for the visit to One International Place in the Financial District of Boston.
He looks at the screen, nods in approval, and asks for my driver's license. He then proceeds to print a visitor's sticker and point me towards the elevators. I stand anxiously amid one of four elevator banks that service the 46 floor building. The light flashes and the golden doors open. I enter and excitedly press the button for the 37th floor. My ears pop as I nervously readjust the bag on my shoulder and tighten my tie. I imagine the many 14 and 15-year-old Cristo Rey Boston students faced with the new challenge of navigating the high-stakes world of "Corporate America".

As an account manager here in the Corporate Work Study Program, my goal is to provide individualized support to students so they may meet this challenge and succeed in their work placements. As the Corporate Work Study team revises our definition of college and career readiness for the 21st century, it is clearer than ever that the professional experience offered by CWSP is more valuable than ever.  We're designing a comprehensive training program to help students unlock their potential and provide the most value for their employers, while simultaneously developing them as young professionals. Read More Here.

Reminders
  • The first week of work for students will be the week of September 6, 2016.

  • If your company requires any onboarding or an orientation before a student begins, please reach out to your account manager to schedule a date/time to complete this before the school year begins. This will help to avoid a delay in the student's first day of work.
