Message from RPA President

We have a full calendar this month and very full newsletter.

Tonight is a parent education event on the subject of executive
functioning which covers important areas like planning, organizing and problem solving. The speaker, Carrie Lindemuth, has researched this area for over 10 years and is affiliated with Communication Works.  We hope that you can join us in the California Room from 7-8:30pm.

The Book Fair remains open and will be open tonight before and after the parent education presentation.  If you can't visit the Book Fair in person, an online ordering option will remain open until Dec.12. This is a great way to take care of holiday shopping, purchase books on the teachers' wish lists and generate credits for Raskob to use in ordering books for the library and classrooms.

Speaking of shopping there are many ways that your holiday shopping can support Raskob during this season of giving. You can see a complete listing below with online links. However, I'd like to point out that a new Sports Basement has opened in Berkeley. This company has a history of supporting schools and Raskob has signed up to be one of them.  On Saturday, 12/13, the Berkeley Sports Basement will host a happy hour for Raskob families from 5 to 7 pm with food and beverages.  Beginning on 12/13, Raskob families (and those friends who mention Raskob) will get 10% off of their purchases and 10% of their purchase amount will be donated to Raskob.  This 10/10 deal will last through Saturday 12/20. Before and after that one week period, Raskob families and friends who mention Raskob will get a 10% discount and 5% of their purchase amount will go to Raskob.

Thank you to Julie Porte Vega and Carla Dartis for doing a wonderful job organizing the Book Fair and thank you to the volunteers who are staffing it.  Thank you to Marjorie Stamper-Kurn and Amy Schoenblum for coordinating the parent education event tonight.  Also, thank you to Dayna Broussard for organizing the See's Candies sales (candy will be sent home with your students next week). Lastly, thank you to all of the families that have paid their RPA dues as we now are up to a participation rate of 61%!

Best Regards,

Marianne Mitosinka, RPA President

The Holidays are the perfect time to express our gratitude to the wonderful teachers and staff at Raskob, who work so hard on behalf of our children.  Starting Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 12, the RPA will have its once a year teacher appreciation donation collection.

The suggested donation is $50 per family, but any amount is welcome.  There are several ways to donate:
  • Drop the donation in the labeled collection baskets at the Book Fair, (12/1-4) or the Parent Ed Night (12/4, 7-9 p.m.)
  • Put the donation in an envelope marked "Teacher Appreciation" and give it to Marlen at the front office.
  • Give Kristin Porter your donation anytime before Dec. 12.

All Donations must be collected by Friday Dec. 12 in order to be distributed before the Holiday break. Please make checks payable to Kristin Porter. For questions, please contact Kristin at

Thanks so much for your generosity!
