Message from RPA President
Please join us for our next Raskob Parent Association (RPA) meeting is next Wednesday, November 5 at 8:30am in the California Room.  We will discuss the upcoming Book Fair and parent education events in addition to fundraising and teacher appreciation.

Our Google Group is up and running.  It can be useful for sharing information about seminars, books, technology and other things that can be helpful to our students and families.  An example of something that I have found useful is a program called Beyond Consequences.  It is geared to families whose children do not respond to consequences like a time out or losing screen time.  This can occur as a result of early childhood trauma, anxiety, etc.  Information regarding an upcoming seminar in Lafayette on Saturday, November 15 can be accessed by clicking hereI plan to attend and would be happy to talk to any of you about the program.

We look forward to seeing you at the next RPA meeting.

Happy Halloween!

Marianne Mitosinka, RPA President

Raskob Book Fair is Coming

Raskob's Book Fair is slated for December 2-4 (Tues-Thu) and will be housed in the school library. Online ordering will also be available and run through December 12. Books for kids and adults as well as gift items for the holidays will be sold. We will continue our partnership with Laurel Books-a treasured independent bookstore. This local connection allows us to support an independent bookstore and have a say about which books will be stocked and available.

In order to reflect everyone's interests, we ask everyone in the Raskob community, parents, teachers, students, to recommend specific books to have available at the fair. Just click to access the
Recommendation List, so you can add your suggestions. Don't know what to put on the Recommendation List for the 2014 Raskob Book Fair? Think about the good books you or your kids read this year, or add books that you have your eye on-either for yourself or as gifts for the fast approaching holidays. Add them to the list, but please do it soon. We need to provide our recommendations to Laurel Books in a few weeks, so please spend some time talking to your kids and adding your family's recommendations to the list!

Remember that when you purchase books via the Raskob Book Fair you are helping Raskob earn a credit toward the procurement of books for the classroom and library. Last year, sales topped $3,500. Laurel Books provided Raskob with a store credit of over $700 (i.e., 20% of total sales). The same arrangement is in place this year, therefore, the more books that we as a community purchase, the more the school's library and our kids benefit.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help with the Book Fair please contact your Book Fair Co-chairs Carla Dartis and Julie Porte-Vega Working on the Book Fair is a fun way to fulfill your required 20 hours of volunteer time this year!
