Thursday Notes
The Raskob Parent Association Weekly Newsletter

April 10, 2014                                                                                       Volume 1   Issue 31
Due to spring break there will not be Thursday Notes next week.
Thursday Notes will resume on April 24.
Message from RPA President

Our next RPA quarterly coffee will be on Wednesday, May 7 from 8:30-9:00am in the California Room.  Raskob's Director, Edee Ben Ari, will give a presentation on the recent WASC accreditation and recommendations that were made. The coffee will be followed by an RPA meeting from 9-10am, also in the California Room.

If you have worried about how students with learning differences can handle college, you should join us for an informal discussion of this subject led by a Raskob parent, Gabriella Tempestoso, who works with such students at Mills College.  The parent education chat will be Tuesday, April 29, on the Mills College campus. You can read more details below.

Please contact me, Marianne via email georgewick@aol.com, if you are interested in becoming more involved in the RPA during the 2014-2015 school year.  A few ways to get involved would be:

  1. If you can attend the monthly RPA meetings on Wednesday mornings , consider the RPA Secretary position. It is a good way to start being involved and you can learn a lot about the school. This is not a big time commitment.
  2. Fundraising - we have someone willing to handle eScrip, Box Tops and See's Candy, but we still need someone to manage the overall function and help coordinate the Raskob Social (and perhaps come up with some additional fundraising ideas).
  3. We are also looking for someone to assist with the weekly Thursday Notes. Bridget Rivezzo has done a great job of streamlining and improving communication to the parents, but needs an assistant for next school year. Assisting with this important function would be a good opportunity to learn a popular newsletter platform and hopefully take the job on for the following school year (2015-2016).

I hope that everyone has a great spring break!

Best Regards,

Marianne

Parent Volunteer Requirements

All families are required to volunteer at least 20 hours in supporting Raskob and its programs. Many have been logging volunteer hours, but may have forgotten to inform Raskob Administration about the hours you've fulfilled.  Please send an email to Raskob Volunteer Hours, or use the Tracking From on the RPA website to submit a brief description of what activities you participated and the number of hours you spent on each activity (for example, drove on field trip-7 hours; baked for teacher breakfast-2 hours, etc).

If you are still looking for ways to volunteer, please visit the RPA Volunteer page on the RPA website for additional opportunities.

Also, in looking ahead to the next school year, a great way to get involved with Raskob's community and fulfill your volunteer requirement is to be a committee chair, work on committee or be an RPA Board Member.  Please visit RPA Board Positions/Committees to see what positions might be of interest to you; the RPA is looking for commitments for 2014-15 already!
