Message from RPA President

Thank you to Anne Schreiner and Steve Etter for hosting our Raskob Social last Saturday evening in their beautiful home. In addition to providing all of the delicious food and beverages, they were wonderful hosts. It was so nice to meet the parents of the students that we hear about every day and to catch up with old friends. A big thank you also goes to Lisa Crawford, our VP of Fundraising, for organizing this event.

Speaking of fundraising, you should be receiving a letter from the RPA Board outlining the three fundraising priorities - technology, library and lunch tables - that have been identified by the Raskob faculty and administration and reviewed by the RPA. We began collecting donations at the Raskob Social and hope that those of you who could not attend will consider mailing in a donation. We will keep you updated as to what the school has been able to purchase with your donations.

Thank you to the 12 parents and grandparents who came to Raskob last Sunday to meet with members of WASC, the accreditation committee that is currently visiting Raskob. It was touching to hear how each family came to Raskob, about their struggles along the way, and how Raskob has helped their children. It was a great reminder of how much Raskob families have in common and of the great school that is Raskob.

A subject that came up repeatedly as parents and guardians spoke about their children during the WASC meeting was anxiety. Our next parent education event deals directly with this topic. Dr. Michael Tompkins is a nationally recognized expert on anxiety in children and will focus his comments on children with learning differences. This presentation will be on Thursday, March 27 from 7-8:30pm in the California Room (located in the building across the street from the elementary classrooms). Please RSVP to Marjorie.

Lastly, we are beginning to think about RPA board positions, committee heads, etc. for next fall.  If you would like to become more involved in the school, please let me know. If you have an area of expertise or something that you particularly like to do, please let me know.  More information about specific openings will come out in the next month. Volunteering with the RPA helps you fulfill the 20 hour commitment of volunteer time to Raskob required of each family every year.

Best Regards,

Marianne
