Today's Reading
Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In those days, the LORD said: "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great,

and their sin so grave,

that I must go down and see whether or not their actions

fully correspond to the cry against them that comes to me.

I mean to find out."

While Abraham's visitors walked on farther toward Sodom,

the LORD remained standing before Abraham.

Then Abraham drew nearer and said:

"Will you sweep away the innocent with the guilty?

Suppose there were fifty innocent people in the city;

would you wipe out the place, rather than spare it

for the sake of the fifty innocent people within it?

Far be it from you to do such a thing,

to make the innocent die with the guilty

so that the innocent and the guilty would be treated alike!

Should not the judge of all the world act with justice?"

The LORD replied,

"If I find fifty innocent people in the city of Sodom,

I will spare the whole place for their sake."

Abraham spoke up again:

"See how I am presuming to speak to my Lord,

though I am but dust and ashes!

What if there are five less than fifty innocent people?

Will you destroy the whole city because of those five?"

He answered, "I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there."

But Abraham persisted, saying "What if only forty are found there?"

He replied, "I will forbear doing it for the sake of the forty."

Then Abraham said, "Let not my Lord grow impatient if I go on.

What if only thirty are found there?"

He replied, "I will forbear doing it if I can find but thirty there."

Still Abraham went on,

"Since I have thus dared to speak to my Lord,

what if there are no more than twenty?"

The LORD answered, "I will not destroy it, for the sake of the twenty."

But he still persisted:

"Please, let not my Lord grow angry if I speak up this last time.

What if there are at least ten there?"

He replied, "For the sake of those ten, I will not destroy it."

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

Student Parking Information!

Starting this school year, in order to help provide a safe and secure environment for all of our students and their vehicles, there will be some changes in the structure of student parking on campus.

Any student who drives a vehicle to school and parks the vehicle in the student parking lot MUST secure a vehicle registration form BEFORE driving the vehicle to school.  Registration forms for current drivers may be picked up in the main office before school starts or from the Assistant Principal, Mr. Gutilla, after school starts.  The grace period for current drivers to pick-up and turn-in a completed registration form will end on Monday, August 29th.  Those students who secure drivers licenses during the school year can pick up the registration forms directly from    Mr. Gutilla.

Upon receipt of the completed registration form the student will receive a numbered Savio student parking tag that must be hung from the rear view mirror of the vehicle.  The cost of student-parking tag is $10.00 and will be issued to the student upon receipt of the completed registration form.  All student vehicles must display the parking tag while parked in the student parking lot.

Safe Driving
A reminder to all who drive on Neenah Ave that the speed limit is 30mph. Please give yourself extra time to get to your final destination when driving through the Neenah neighborhood and both schools. Traffic has increased due to the opening of the Neenah Ave expansion.  Please drive with caution at the speed limit  to ensure your safety!

Technology News
Please share with family and friends.

"Pokeman Go" has become the latest new game rage, it's even being discussed on Relevant Radio as an Evangelization tool. Apparently Churches can set themselves up as "Poke stops"  and draw players to the church to play the game.

In less than two weeks of the game being available, it has supposedly been downloaded more than any mobile app game in history, and it is close to catching the Twitter app in downloads. So, it is very popular and may be on a kid's phone near you...

Please be aware of some of the risks involved for you and your friends and family as outlined in this excerpt from a recent article. (See full post here):

You have probably heard about the new Pokmon app. It's going viral and sends people on the street to catch these little virtual creatures. There are some risks if you have the "gotta catch 'em all" fever.

First, please stick to the vetted app stores, do not download the app from anywhere else. Why? Bad guys have taken the app and infected it with malware, and try to trick you downloading it from untrustworthy websites.

Second, anyone using the app, and especially kids should be VERY aware that they are not lured into a real-world trap which could lead to mugging or abduction. Other players can track you in the real world using this app so be careful.

Third, there are possible privacy issues if you use your Google account to log into the app. Create a throw-away account and use that to log into Pokmon, not your private or business account.

As always, Think Before You Click!

Senior, Sean Grieshop represents Savio in Interview and TV Show: Gold Medal Families
Our very own Sean Grieshop represented St. Dominic Savio with an interview with Swimming World about his performance at the Olympic Team Trials. Listen to the interview HERE!

In June, Grieshop secured fourth place in United States history for the U.S. Olympic Team trials for men's 17 - 18 age group. Grieshop clocked in at 4:14.00 in the 400 m Individual Medley (IM) to set a new Junior World Record.

His time is just five minutes short from Michael Phelps' 4:09.09 record in 2003. This places Grieshop's record just behind Michael Phelps, Tim Dolan, Chase Kalisz. He now ranks fourth place in U.S. history in his 17-18 age group.

Grieshop finished the Olympic team trials strong in fifth place overall. While only the top two finalists of the team trials move on to the Olympic Team, we proud of this significant achievement for Grieshop!
Grieshop and his family were recently featured in the Lifetime Television show Gold Medal Families.  Watch HERE!

All the athlete's featured on the show are ages 17 to 21. The Lifetime show reflects the constant commitment both the athlete's and their families go through while preparing for the Olympic Team Trials. A recent article about the show was published on SwimSwam.com.  Read HERE

Congratulations Sean Grieshop, we are proud of you!

Savio Parent Association (SPA) News

Our school year is getting ready to begin and we are always in need of Volunteers.  Contact SPA Chair, Julie Zimmerman at [email protected] and she can help find the perfect spot for you: a once in a while volunteer, a "done in a day" project, class rep helper, or SPA committee member.  Our school is growing and so is the need for more parent involvement; several special Savio traditions are solely parent/volunteer-run.  Please email Julie Zimmerman at [email protected].

If you would like to help with your child's specific class events (whether in person or in kind), please email Julie Zimmerman at [email protected].   She will put you in touch with your class rep.

Back to school events start right away - the week of August 8th - so please let us know if you'd like to help.

Something NEW at Savio!
Several enterprising and forward-thinking freshman came up with a question: To encourage students to drink more water, but, not necessarily encourage plastic water bottle consumption, would Savio be able to install a water bottle filling station?   The answer is YES!  Thanks to the always cost-conscious & thrifty spending habits of the Savio Parent Association (SPA) committee chairs; along with generous donations by parents and friends of Savio, there were some SPA funds left over at the end of the 2015-16 school year.  According to SPA rules, all monies must be spent during the current school year, so the SPA Executive Committee voted to approve the use of the excess funds on this healthy, student-initiated idea. Thank you & happy drinking!
