Today's Reading
|
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Fund-A-Need
A special thank you to everyone that contributed to this year's Fund-A-Need at Saturday's Soiree. You can still participate by clicking HERE in support of two needs for our entire school. This Fund-A-Need will provide additional lunch tables in our Commons area. This would allow for better seating options at every lunch, but especially during inclement weather. Our second need if met could allow the students to engage and explore more fully the laws that govern the world around them. This project adds to our collection of electronic probes in our science department. Vernier Software & Technology produces a rugged, flexible platform for data acquisition and analysis. Please join us in this endeavor to reinforce our strong science curriculum and to solidify our excellent STEM education. Donations to the Fund-A-Need are eligible for matching grants through your company. This is a great way to double the impact of your gift. Please contact the Development Office at 512-244-4861 for questions or assistance.

Summer Vacation
Long past are the days when the summer break was for students to help the family in the matters of the farm. For many St. Dominic Savio students it will be a time to catch up or to get ahead in their academic endeavors. Options include summer school or various camps.
Summer school may be necessary in order to gain the grades and credits to continue toward completion of the high school diploma. For others, summer school could be an opportunity to get a feel for college life. If you are a sophomore, junior or senior with a PSAT score of 107 Combined CR and M (critical reading and Math both at least 50) you could gain college credit from Austin Community College with free tuition. Other standardized scores which may exempt one from college readiness testing would be a Composite score of 23 on the ACT (19 English, 19 math), an SAT score of 1070 combined CR and M (500 Critical Reading and 500 Math). While these courses will not count toward the requirements for graduation from St. Dominic Savio, it will give the student college credit. BEWARE, the courses are for college credit and will be on a college transcript. Come prepared to learn! For more information, visit www.austincc.edu/ecs or call 512.223.7355
There are a plethora of summer camps offered for high school students. Some are specific to a particular area of interest while others are designed to provide students with the "college" experience. Please check the guidance section of Savio's website to locate options
