Notes About Your Blood Glucose Meter

~If your meter is several years old, it's probably time for a new one.

~You can check the accuracy of your meter at the lab the next time you have a blood test.

~Insurance companies typically prefer certain meters, so check with yours to make sure you get the most coverage.

~Read your instruction manual. Most meters are capable of showing your blood sugar history, as well as averages. Many meters also have notification/message settings. The instruction manual will walk you though how to operate your meter to its fullest potential. (of course, if you prefer to just obtain your blood sugar value and record in log book, that's okay too!)

~Meter companies are always working to update meters. Even if you have been using the same meter for years, there might be an udated version that you like even better. Talk to you diabetes educator about your options.
