Education isn't always the answer |
|
Just because you know the right way to do something, doesn't mean you always do it. So suggests a survey of New York state anesthesiologists recently published in the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia. 600 survey respondents correctly answered questions regarding infection prevention; however, about half reported using medication vials for multiple patients, and a third reported not using a new needle and syringe to access these vials. Reasons given for these practices included medication shortages and concerns over waste and cost. Self-employed and outpatient practice anesthesiologists were the most concerned about cost control. |
