Toxic Tweet

Many folks at MUSC are working hard to improve timely hospital discharges. A hospital in Baltimore had an idea: incentivize nurses by giving $10 gift cards to those that discharge at least 20% of their patients early. This idea backfired, however, when patient safety was questioned. One irate nurse took to Twitter to complain about rushing to discharge her procedural patients, with a sarcastic tweet that she was sorry her very sick patient did not want to go home, but she wanted the gift card. The ensuing storm of controversy brought forth experts on patient safety and even the president of the Maryland Nurses Association to raise concerns in the Baltimore Sun about rushing discharges. The tweeting nurse subsequently deleted her tweets.
