According to a study from the UK, 100% of student nurses report seeing infection prevention practice violations during their clinical rotations. 480 nurses responding to a questionnaire noted some noncompliance with 20 separate infection prevention practices such as handwashing, use of isolation precautions and poor practice accessing IV therapy; they also noted other poor practices such as insertion of a urinary catheter or dealing with bodily fluids without gloves. Over 76% reported poor hand hygiene; another frequent finding was wearing rings besides wedding rings and the use of nail extensions. |
