SC Mission 2013 - Lowcountry |
Dear MUSC Medical Staff,
This past weekend, the SC Mission 2013 - Lowcountry free medical and dental clinic was held at the North Charleston Convention Center.
Volunteers from the Lowcountry's health facilities staffed the event. MUSC was well represented, with the University Internal Medicine clinic sending four faculty and eight residents. In addition, there were multiple MUSC faculty, advance practice providers, non-clinical leaders, administrative staff, and a medical student who volunteered on Friday or Saturday.
Approximately 650 people received over 1,100 medical services, including vaccinations, as well as medical, vision, and gynecological exams. All charts were brought to MUSC Medical Center medical records department late Saturday and staff there have been extremely helpful in incorporating these records into our chart system.
The event received extensive media coverage and involvement by local and state leaders. Glenn McConnell, Lieutenant Governor, attended for several hours.
But most importantly, the patients were extremely grateful for the care provided!
At MUSC, we take care of many patients every day who do not have adequate funding and the SC Mission 2013 event is another example of MUSC professionals giving back to the community.
A special thanks to those that attended the event or provided support, but also thank you to everyone in MUSC Health for the care you provide every day regardless of funding status.
Sincerely,
Patrick J. Cawley, MD Executive Director/CEO, Medical Center Vice President for Clinical Operations, University
