Alarming

Although much has been written regarding the problem of alarm fatigue, solutions remain elusive. The subject is very complicated-which alarms cause the most alarm fatigue, and which are the most dangerous to ignore? Do the solutions involve designing better alarms, or designing better reactions to alarms? Determining an "alarm philosophy" is advocated in a recent review article. Decisions on what alarms are needed, how they are prioritized and the modality (visual, auditory) used must be part of good alarm design. This extremely complicated problem will not be solved quickly
