Nurse Access to EMRs

For physicians working in different areas, it can be confusing which electronic medical records nurses

have access to:

-In the EDs and PACU, nurses can view McKesson orders, but they will not know the orders are there unless you tell them (e.g. they do not receive any kind of "prompt" to view/execute these orders).

-In the PACU, the nurses have to print the orders, and then document all actions on paper (they do not document at all in McKesson).

-In all inpatient units, PACUs, ORs, and procedural areas (EP, cath, IR, etc), nurses do not have any access to EPIC, so any documentation completed in EPIC (H/Ps, discharge instructions, consults) needs to be printed and put into the (paper) medical record.

When in doubt, please ask the nursing staff within an area what they have access to; we all look forward to having a comprehensive electronic medical record in July 2014!

The Children's Hospital of South Carolina

Dear MUSC Medical Staff,Dr. Cawley

The Medical University of South Carolina has been caring for children since 1955. The MUSC Children's Hospital was established in 1987 and has been advancing the health of children in South Carolina and beyond. To enhance this fact, we are pleased to provide an update to the well-established Children's Hospital logo. You will note the change in name from Children's Hospital to The Children's Hospital of South Carolina.

Children's Hospital of South Carolina

"We wanted to reflect the impact that the Children's Hospital's dedicated team has had on South Carolina's children by providing an environment that supports excellence in pediatric patient care, education and research," says John Sanders, Children's Hospital administrator. Our focus is on providing excellence in pediatric care from the tiniest of newborns to teenagers. Every team member is 100% dedicated to providing the most advanced care possible for children.

Our numerous national recognitions and awards support this increased representation of our logo and align with MUSC's commitment to changing what's possible for children. From our U.S. News and World Report rankings, most currently recognizing cardiology & heart surgery, nephrology and gastroenterology & GI surgery to our Best Doctor rankings with 67 pediatric physicians listed, the Children's Hospital is a national leader for pediatric care. "The children of South Carolina are extremely fortunate to have the very best possible care available in the state," says Rita Ryan, M.D., Chair of the Department of Pediatrics.

As a premier pediatric academic medical center, we will continue to advance the health of children by discovering better ways to care for the whole child and providing high-quality, compassionate, child and family-centered care in an environment that fosters innovation, education, collaboration and excellence. We are grateful for the pediatric team's expertise and dedication to kids and appreciate the continued ambassadorship to elevate the strong brand of The Children's Hospital of South Carolina.

Thank you for the great care you provide every day!

Sincerely,

Patrick J. Cawley, MD
