Orthopedic Falls |

One patient safety focus that all health care practitioners are involved with is fall prevention. Falls are a leading cause of injuries to elderly patients, particularly patients undergoing elective orthopedic procedures. A recent review of this population found that 0.9% suffered a fall during their hospitalization; 30% of those falls resulted in minor injury while 8% resulted in moderate to severe injury. Hip replacement patients were 4x more likely to have a serious complication compared to other orthopedic patients.
