Yuck!

In a finding that will surely give radiology personnel pause, a recent report published in the Journal of the American College of Radiology found more bacteria in radiology workstations than on toilet seats in nearby restrooms. Outpatient and inpatient reading rooms were sampled in 2 teaching hospitals in 2 states. Computer mice had over 4x the level of bacteria as the toilet seats; dictation microphones were even worse at 6x; 64% were S. aureus; 21% were enteric organisms. After brief antiseptic swabbing, the bacterial counts were almost completely eliminated. This may be a good day to clean your computer mouse and microphone!
