For physicians working in different areas, it can be confusing which electronic medical records nurses
have access to:
-In the EDs and PACU, nurses can view McKesson orders, but they will not know the orders are there unless you tell them (e.g. they do not receive any kind of "prompt" to view/execute these orders).
-In the PACU, the nurses have to print the orders, and then document all actions on paper (they do not document at all in McKesson).
-In all inpatient units, PACUs, ORs, and procedural areas (EP, cath, IR, etc), nurses do not have any access to EPIC, so any documentation completed in EPIC (H/Ps, discharge instructions, consults) needs to be printed and put into the (paper) medical record.
When in doubt, please ask the nursing staff within an area what they have access to; we all look forward to having a comprehensive electronic medical record in July 2014! |
