A new ERA?

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a bundle of interventions developed to decrease length of stay and complications, without affecting mortality. It has primarily been adopted in the UK for use in the perioperative management for colorectal, vascular, and thoracic surgery. Enhancing post-operative recovery starts during the preoperative phase, where the patient is well informed and vital organ function is "optimized:. During the perioperative phase, there is a focus on optimal fluid management. Post-operatively, fluid management continues to be important, along with early oral nutrition and mobilization.
