Studying Falls |
|
The prevention of patient falls is a patient safety priority. However, strong evidence of efficacy for fall prevention approaches has been elusive. A review of the literature published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society reviewed 59 studies, completed over a period of 28 years. Interventions in these studies included fall risk screening, clear identification of fall risk patient with signs on doors, beds at the lowest position, and non-skid footwear. The authors found only a few of these studies reported sufficient data to evaluate effectiveness and most of the studies were low quality. Further rigorous research is clearly needed in this area. |
