Disney Dedicates Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

More than 200 journalists from around the globe got a sneak peek of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train during a dedication ceremony at Magic Kingdom Park. Destined to be an instant classic, this family-friendly coaster represents the completion of New Fantasyland, which nearly doubled the size of the most popular land in the most popular theme park in the world. "Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is both literally and figuratively the centerpiece of New Fantasyland, so we knew it had to be something special," said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "The attraction appeals to everyone in the family and provides just the right blend of heart, humor and thrill while keeping with the charm of this special land." This multi-year expansion also provided a boost to the local economy with the creation of more than 700 construction jobs, including work with minority-owned businesses, and another 800 operational jobs, ranging from attractions hosts to mechanical technicians to managers. This crowning jewel of New Fantasyland officially opens May 28.

To celebrate this special anniversary, the theme park hosted a rededication ceremony and recognized more than 80 Cast Members who have worked there since the park opened. "Over the years, many of the guest experiences in our theme park have changed," said Dan Cockerell, vice president of Disney's Hollywood Studios. "But the one thing that hasn't changed is the dedication of our Cast Members who work hard to bring the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to life every day." Other anniversary celebrations included a "Stars of the Studios" motorcade on Hollywood Boulevard featuring Disney film characters and a fireworks show atop the Sorcerer's Hat.
