INTRODUCING CAROLE WIESS, Director, Friday Soup Kitchen (FSK) at All Souls
| Victor Fidel, Carol Kirkman, Carole Wiess, Tom Blum and Bill Bechman |
Carole Weiss is the leader for FSK. She has been a New Yorker for nearly 40 years. Upon retiring from a career in marketing/ business development, Carole states she decided "feeding the hungry of New York was a true passion - and where I could focus my efforts." She says she heard about FSK through a neighbor who volunteers and "from the first day, chopping lettuce in the kitchen, knew FSK was where I was meant to be." That was 3 years ago. In only one year since starting to volunteer, she would take over the reins and has been leading for 2 years now. Along with Donna Harrow and Helen Roy, FSK has true leadership.
Carole credits the success of FSK to the many dedicated volunteers who show up every week and do anything that is asked of them including going out to raise money for the program. The volunteers go out several times a year to celebrate their love of being together at a local bar that financially supports FSK. Children from local schools (Brearley, Allen Stevenson, and Nightingale) come to volunteer and wait on tables. The schools also do food drives to help FSK obtain the expensive food items they need. FSK is also proud of their relationship with local retailers, especially Whole Foods, which donates cartloads of fresh bread, muffins and doughnuts. In addition they also obtain bread weekly from Eli's, fabulous frozen items from Babeth's Feast, and have a long-term relationship from Shawmut Design and Construction who not only volunteer monthly but also help financially. Friday Soup Kitchen needs your financial support to continue serving over 250 people every week. Hello from the President of the Heart & Soul Charitable Fund
Our meal programs need your financial support to continue to thrive especially during this holiday season. The warmth and caring that our guests receive during our two weekly meal programs cannot be described by words alone.
I invite you to support the programs financially as you are able. I also encourage you to visit the program websites and volunteer on a Monday evening MNH or on a Friday afternoon FSK to experience the joy of serving of others. In addition, Monday Night Hospitality is planning to hand out coats, hats, scarves, and socks to our guests so they may be warmer as the winter weather approaches. Thank you for your continued support.
