A brief message from Galen Guengerich...
I'm delighted to have been asked to inaugurate the first issue of the Heart & Soul Charitable Fund newsletter, and it's also my pleasure to welcome you to this periodic mailing. I write these words with the conviction that sharing our hopes, dreams, and aspirations through charitable giving will strengthen the connections among us and help create a community enhanced by our compassion.
Heart & Soul has funded the outreach programs of All Souls Church for nearly a quarter-century. In fact, the year 2013 marks the 24th Anniversary of the Heart & Soul Charitable Fund. I'm deeply grateful to those visionary souls - some of whom continue in leadership roles - who made this possible. Two of our signature programs at All Souls, Monday Night Hospitality and the Friday Soup Kitchen, have served over 130,000 meals in the last five years alone. These programs receive the bulk of their funding from Heart & Soul. We have been inseparable partners of the Heart & Soul Charitable Fund since its founding, and we look forward to sustaining this partnership well into the future.
Heart & Soul's compass isn't limited to feeding programs, nor is its reach limited to the Upper East Side of Manhattan. In addition to the Girl Scouts, the Navigators, and the Booker T. Washington Learning Center, about fifteen other community-based organizations now depend on Heart & Soul for fiscal support. Heart & Soul's influence extends into the arts, education, health care, and social justice; the capacity for doing good work is limited only by the vision and commitment of people like you. A quick tour of the organization's website - see the link at the bottom of this page - will give you an idea of the myriad places and diverse ways the Heart & Soul Charitable
Fund carries on the business of sustaining this critical work.
The Forrest Church Award for Humanitarian Service remains the centerpiece of the Heart & Soul annual calendar. Please join me on February 21, 2013 at Christie's for the annual Heart & Soul Auction, when we will present the Forrest Church Award to Gail McGovern, President and CEO of the American Red Cross, an organization that has historic ties to All Souls.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Galen
