Letter from Mayor Bob Buckhorn on the Chamber's Trade Mission to Ireland

Tampa is a global city. We are building relationships across the world that produce jobs and economic success here at home. Trade missions, like the one this past week to Dublin, Ireland, are critical in growing those relationships and showing international markets what Tampa has to offer.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Cllr. Sarah Holland, mayor of South Dublin, sign the Sister Cities agreement.
We know here at home, Tampa's DNA is changing. We are transforming our skyline, growing our workforce, and educating the leaders of tomorrow. This trade mission tapped in to many facets of how cities strive, including arts and culture, education, transportation, economic development, and a new Sister Cities agreement established between South Dublin and Tampa.

Walking around the streets of Dublin, we saw all ages, races, and ethnicities. We heard a profusion of languages and accents. The city was booming with young professionals attracted to Dublin through new start-ups and expanding tech companies. We met with leaders of government and business to tell Tampa's story - the amazing story of a city coming in to its own.

The best and the brightest from around the globe see their future in Dublin and it reinforces all we are doing in our city to attract innovative companies to create the kinds of jobs that draw in intellectual capital. Those, young and not so young, that can go anywhere because their talent is in demand. More and more frequently, they are choosing Tampa.

Thank you to the business leaders and staff at the Greater Tampa Chamber for their relentlessness for Tampa's economic success. As long as I am Mayor, we will stay committed to growing Tampa's profile on the global stage.  Our commitment to building relationships worldwide is critical.

Sincerely,

Mayor Bob Buckhorn
