D.C. Fly-In

Members of the Chamber's board of directors traveled to Washington, D.C. this week to meet with members of Congress, as well as the Commerce and State Departments. During their visit on Tuesday and Wednesday, Chamber members discussed healthcare policy and funding, the need for Congress to pass a long-range transportation bill and the normalization of diplomatic relations with Cuba.

State Budget Update

On Tuesday, Governor Scott signed the budget that was approved by the Florida House and Senate last Friday. Included in the allocations was $17 million for the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine downtown campus. This is a victory for USF as well as an important piece to the redevelopment of downtown Tampa.

While the funding for USF is a victory many projects in Hillsborough County and throughout the state were vetoed by the governor. The budget year begins July 1.

How great would it have been to have some more guidance? Read more...
