The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced last week that the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce has been honored for the second year in a row by Hiring Our Heroes with the three-star Chamber of Valor award. The Chamber of Valor award acknowledges the contributions of local chambers, industry associations, and business development organizations that join the Hiring Our Heroes mission of finding meaningful employment for veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses.

"When it comes to supporting not just veterans and military families, but the local businesses hiring them, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce is setting a standard for others to follow," said Eric Eversole, vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and president of Hiring Our Heroes. Legislative Session in Tallahassee

The 2015 Legislative Session is scheduled to end on May 1. Due to the fact that there is not a joint budget between the house and the senate, it appears that a special session will be called. The issue of health care expansion is the reason that the house and senate have not been able to pass a budget during the regular session as they are required to do every year prior to the next fiscal year. The Florida Senate has passed a proposal that allows for health care expansion while the Florida House has remained strong in their opposition to expansion. The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce supports health care expansion as a sound business decision and a win for Florida.
