The theme of this year's International Women's Day is "Making It Happen." Join your friends and colleagues to launch this year's celebration and explore practical approaches you can apply to your career that will help you bridge the confidence gap, increase your visibility, enhance your leadership voice, and boost your effectiveness. Keynote speaker Kathy Durdin of KDurdin Consulting will show us how applying these approaches will make you more confident in who you are. We will also explore what all of us can do within our organizations to make women's careers happen.

The award, established by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce's Women of Influence Committee, will be presented at the annual Women of Influence Luncheon on April 2, 2015 at the A La Carte Event Pavilion. The luncheon will feature keynote speakers Emily Nunez Cavness and Betsy Nunez, co-founders of Sword & Plough, a fashion company that works with veterans to make fashionable and durable bags from recycled military fabrics. Sponsorships and corporate tables for the luncheon are currently available for sale by contacting sfraser@tampachamber.com. Individual tickets will go on sale February 12.

Leadership Tampa Class of 2015 Health Sciences Day

LT '15 enjoyed a great day last Wednesday on Health Sciences Day as the class was introduced to a few of the leading medical facilities that make Tampa such a unique and innovative medical community. After another early 7 a.m. start, we grabbed our bus buddies and headed over to Moffitt Cancer Center to learn about the innovative and holistic approach that Moffitt uses in the treatment of cancer. After a brief introduction by Dr. Dan Sullivan we broke off into groups and each experienced different departments of the Moffitt machine that help keep them on the cutting edge of cancer research and treatment. My group was assigned to the Analytical Microscopy tour where I was able to see what a $1,000,000 will buy in terms of a microscope. Read more and view photos...

Tampa Bay Trade & Protocol Council Announcement
Join the Tampa Bay Trade & Protocol Council on February 18, 2015, 6:30 - 9 p.m. for a reception to support and commemorate the voyage of the reconstructed ship Hermione, the replica of the 18th century French frigate of Liberty, and her grand U.S. return voyage in the summer of 2015. The reception will be hosted by the Consul General of France Philippe Letrilliart, in the presence of Miles Young, president of Friends of Hermione Lafayette in America. The reception celebrates democracy, heritage, and the indomitable spirit that inspired young Lafayette to board the Hermione in 1780 and sail to General Washington's aid in America's fight for freedom. Chamber Ribbon Cutting Celebration
Member Marks Milestone with Chamber Ambassadors
Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Southern Strategy Group partners Seth McKeel and Laura Boehmer, along with bay area civic and community leaders cut the ribbon on Southern Strategy Group's new downtown Tampa location. Southern Strategy Group is a full-service lobbying firm that was established in Tallahassee, Florida in 1999. It is the largest lobbying firm in the state with offices in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami and Tampa.

Leaders in Action: Leadership Tampa Alumni Support Childhood Literacy
 As part of their first 2015 quarterly project, members of Leadership Tampa Alumni attending the LTA Annual Meeting collected 154 books and gave donations to buy books for children 2 - 8 years old that will be donated to BookWorks, an early childhood literacy program of Goodwill Industries-Suncoast.
Early literacy support is key to the education process. More than 36,000 books were distributed through BookWorks in 2014, and now the program's texts and volunteers can be found in 26 Hillsborough County Head Start Schools. LTA members will continue to donate books through March and will participate in a separate community outreach project to read and distribute the donated books to students.
