Congratulations to Jason Chavez, Regional Account Manager with Platinum Information Services in Tampa Bay, for being our Ambassador of the Quarter! After finishing college in Colorado, Jason moved to Tampa in 2001 looking for a longer boating season and an opportunity in sales. The Tampa Bay Times will begin distributing USA TODAY for the Tampa Bay area after being awarded a three-year contract from Gannett, the parent company of USA TODAY. Starting in November, the Times will distribute about 10,000 copies of the daily print edition of USA TODAY, which publishes Monday through Friday, in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Hernando counties. USA TODAY will be available in more than 1,100 retail outlets, 200 hotels and some schools and colleges. The paper also will be home delivered.

Florida Hospital and MOSI officially announced a transformational partnership that will unite the two not-for-profit organizations for years to come and make a difference in the Tampa Bay community. Florida Hospital presented MOSI with a $2 million dollar check to provide the support needed to keep the science center moving forward. The investment will enable MOSI to transform the IMAX Dome Theatre from film to a state-of-the-art digital 3D projection system.

The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, is pleased to announce that its Leadership Shumaker program donated $1,700 to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Port Tampa Bay is pleased to announce that its application for grant funding for three projects through FEMA's Seaport Security Grant Program has been fully funded for the amount of $1,688,475. This important grant award will fund three projects at the port that will allow the port to advance its security with upgraded and new equipment.

On July 16, 2014, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. was awarded a contract by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority to build three new Automated People Mover (APM) systems at Orlando International Airport. The contract includes 18 new APM train cars as well as operations and maintenance of the system for up to 15 years. Mitsubishi will provide an entirely new APM system as well as replace two of the existing APM systems at the airport, which were originally installed by another supplier.

Fifth Third Bank is proud to support the local community through the following initiatives:
- $840 donated to The Centre for Women in Hyde Park as part of their Jeans for Charity program. Through the program, employees pay $10 a month to an employee-nominated charity in order to wear jeans on Fridays. In addition to the donation, Fifth Third Bank employees provided financial empowerment seminars to women at The Centre as part of the bank's Empower U program.
- Fifth Third Bank is bringing back its "Pay to the Order of" campaign after a successful first quarter run that helped to raise more than $2.3 million in donations to Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). The campaign was first launched in January and leverages new checking accounts to help drive donations that support collaborative cancer research programs. For each new customer who opens a checking account with direct deposit and makes three online bill payments, Fifth Third will give $150 to the customer and donate $150 to SU2C. The new campaign will run through Oct. 17.
- Community Action Stops Abuse, Inc., a Florida based non-profit organization that supports victims of domestic violence, received loan financing from Fifth Third Bank for a new 100 bed shelter in St. Petersburg, Florida.

All Children's Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine will open an outpatient care center in South Tampa later this year, bringing a range of specialized services tailored to the health care needs of local families. Pediatric services at the family-friendly facility will include occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech language therapy, cardiology testing as well as pediatric specialty physician visits. The facility will also feature walk-in laboratory services for collecting blood work and other samples. The 7,300 square-foot facility will be located at 1202 South Church Avenue.

All Children's Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine participated in a study on patient-care handoffs along with 22 other hospitals as an effort to improve communication, medical errors and overall patient safety during the handoff process. Of the 23 hospitals involved in the study, nine hospitals, including All Children's Hospital, achieved a "top performer" status for accomplishing patient handoff goals and meeting or exceeding national benchmark levels.

For the second consecutive year, Tampa Bay Business Journal has named Convergence Consulting Group (CCG) as a finalist for the TBBJ Fast 50, an award ranking the fifty fastest growing companies in Tampa Bay. David Stone, Interim President & CEO recently announced the appointment of Scott Jacobsen as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for NorthStar Bank. Mr. Jacobsen joined the bank in 2009 as Senior Vice President to lead the Commercial Lending Division. In Scott's new role, he will provide day-to-day management of all operating divisions of the bank. In addition, Scott will continue as head of the Commercial Lending Division.
