Tampa Chamber and South Tampa Chamber Endorse Greenlight Pinellas 

The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and South Tampa Chamber of Commerce have endorsed the Greenlight Pinellas plan for bus improvements and future passenger rail service in Pinellas County, with connections to Hillsborough County. Pinellas County voters will consider the Greenlight Pinellas plan in November 2014.

"Greenlight Pinellas is the first step towards a regional system and will benefit the entire region," Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce Chair Robin DeLaVergne said. "It will create connections between Tampa International Airport and Pinellas beaches, as well as link the growing Gateway and Westshore districts." Read more >>
Event Recap: Pearls of Wisdom

Over 80 women from the Tampa Bay business community gathered at the Tampa Museum of Art on Tuesday for our most recent Pearls of Wisdom event: "Start Me Up! Women in Entrepreneurship." These ladies had the opportunity to network with fellow businesswomen and hear from an incredible panel of local female entrepreneurs about their experiences breaking into the corporate world on their own. 
 
Our panel included moderator Jessica Rivelli of Working Women of Tampa Bay, Susan Stackhouse of Stellar Partners, Inc., Pam French of Pami Pocket, and Gina Almonte of Refresh-a-Baby (one of the Chamber's 2013 Start-Up Scholars!). Attendees walked away with empowering lessons and advice that could be applied to any professional endeavor, as well as plenty of new relationships with fellow women in the workplace! All Call for Committee Members: 8th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament

Mark your calendars! The Chamber's 8th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament is set for Friday, November 21 at Tampa Bay Sporting Clays. Registration will begin later this summer, but the planning committee is kicking into high gear in July. If you have an interest in clay shooting, special event planning or just want to meet some other Chamber members, get involved! The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bob Rohrlack released this statement following Governor Rick Scott signing the state budget:

More than 700 guests attended Moffitt Cancer Center's 21st annual Magnolia Ball on Saturday, May 3 at A La Carte Event Pavilion.  The uplifting evening included video messages from Olivia Newton-John and Coach Don Shula, a patient testimonial from Sarasota-resident, Tiffany Garber, as well as live entertainment from Huey Lewis & The News.  Chaired by Bob and Lorraine Dutkowsky, the Ball raised $3 million for patient care, research and education at the Cancer Center.  Contributions also benefit the Magnolia Lodging Program. All Children's Hospital will continue to create healthy tomorrows for children across the region thanks to another year of donations at its 31st annual telethon. With the help of thousands of donors this year, the hospital raised $3,926,121during the 11 ˝ hour live broadcast on WFLA-TV News Channel 8, as well as through the taped broadcast on WXCW in the Ft. Myers/Naples area. Money raised through the telethon will directly fund treatment, research, education and advocacy initiatives at All Children's Hospital.
The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay announced that it is launching Men Stopping Violence Against Women, an initiative that engages men and boys in the effort to end gender-based violence. In the Tampa Bay area, the Crisis Center has been at the forefront of engaging men in effectively working with women in partnership for gender equality and addressing the negative consequences of unequal power relationships. 

The Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education at HCC is seeking volunteers to participate in an Advisory Board for the Insurance Program. Port Tampa Bay is extremely pleased to announce that, after Gov. Rick Scott's signing of a funding package today, the port authority will now have the funds to purchase new post-Panamax gantry cranes to expand throughput capacity at the port's growing container terminal-a $12 million boon for the state's largest and most diversified port. Port Tampa Bay's strategic investment in post-Panamax cranes will enable it to serve the ever increasing container vessels being deployed by the regional and global carriers.
