Emerge Tampa Bay Protégé Graduation

Emerge Tampa Bay gathered on Tuesday night at the University of Tampa in honor of the completion of the 2013 session of their signature Protege Program. Both mentors and protégés came together to celebrate the graduation of over 60 Emerge proteges. Over 40 of the 60 mentors were members of Leadership Tampa Alumni, which is an excellent demonstration of our leadership journey. The graduation had an inspirational keynote address given by Leadership Tampa Alumni member, Joanne Sullivan of the University of Tampa. Joanne spoke on the "Value and Importance of Mentoring - Paying It Forward" and we'd like to share her keynote address with you. Please enjoy!

Holiday Shopping Personal Safety and Identity Protection: How to be safe in the stores and online

Our final Pearls of Wisdom for the year will provide attendees with useful information for protecting yourself and your belongings while holiday shopping at brick and mortar stores as well as ways to guard against identity theft in the stores and online.

This women's focus program will feature City of Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor giving a straightforward, no-nonsense presentation on how to avoid becoming a victim, including self-defense techniques that anyone can use. Suzanne Diaz from PNC Bank will cover safety measures to protect your identity from cyber thieves and fraud, not just at the holidays but in your everyday life.

In the holiday spirit, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce's Women of Influence Committee is also taking this opportunity to facilitate a Diaper Donation Drive for the Alpha House of Tampa. Diapers will be collected at the event as well as the Chamber office. All size diapers are greatly needed except newborn. Pearls of Wisdom will be held on December 11th at Mise en Place. The Small Business Information Center (SBIC) is committed to supporting economic development by assisting entrepreneurs in the creation or expansion of small, minority and women-owned businesses throughout Hillsborough County. SBIC provides free business consultations to help clients start and grow their business. Clients receive assistance with developing their business idea, business plan, marketing plan, answer questions about business structure, zoning, permitting, taxes, insurance, bonding and registering your business.

 

The Chamber hosts monthly appointments with SBIC on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Local philanthropists, Dick & Cornelia Corbett were honored on November 6 at a special dedication ceremony at the new Corbett Trauma Center, a division of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay
 
The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay announced that it is a recipient of the 2013 Verizon Wireless Technology Innovation Award. The 2013 Verizon Wireless Technology Innovation Awards recognizes the most innovative implementations of Verizon Wireless technology in small and medium sized organizations operating in Tampa Bay. The awards ceremony was held at the A La Carte event pavilion, where it was announced that the Crisis Center will receive $10,000 from Verizon as the winner of the award. 
The University of South Florida's part-time MBA is the top program among Florida's 12 state universities, and No. 16 among public schools in the nation, according to new rankings released by Bloomberg Businessweek. Overall, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked USF's part-time MBA program 36th in the nation among both private and public universities. USF's program is ranked above other prestigious business schools such as the University of Florida, Georgetown, Ohio State, and Boston University.
