Recap: UNFILTERED: A Tampa Bay Young Professional Town Hall Event

Elected officials Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, State Representative James Grant, Councilwoman Lisa Montelione, and County Commissioner Sandy Murman joined the young professionals of Emerge Tampa Bay last Thursday at the 2nd annual Emerge Town Hall Event: UNFILTERED. UNFILTERED was a question and answer session with policy makers and business leaders about transportation, entrepreneurship, innovation and political engagement.

Councilwoman Montelione urged the young professionals to "utilize social media to make communication easier, more frequent and more relevant". Representative Grant said, "meet your government leaders, ask them to lunch, and continue having discussions on making Tampa better." Commissioner Murman challenged members of Emerge; "don't just sit in your board room, sponsor an individual. Find something you care about, make that your platform and take it into the community." Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn reminded the group that they "don't need permission to be great, whatever it is, stick with it and get it done." Thank you to our presenting sponsor University of Tampa, our panel and the 100+ attendees for a successful event!

Tampa Chamber Delegation Returns from Historic Trip to Cuba

Trip reconnects historic U.S. gateway to Cuba

A delegation of members of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce took a historic experiential learning trip to Cuba from May 29 - June 2. The delegation returned with a renewed perspective on living and economic conditions in Cuba with their sights on continuing the discussion on how best to pursue the goal of re-instituting economic ties with the nation. "Tampa is the historic U.S. gateway to Cuba and we have over 90,000 Cuban Americans living in our region. This trip was a first step in rebuilding those ties. It's the culmination of a decision the Chamber made 18 months ago to visit the nation. It also ties directly to years of hard work with Congresswoman Kathy Castor's office and Tampa International Airport to reestablish flights to Cuba," said Bob Rohrlack, president and CEO of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Read more
