Viola Davis encourages audience to be "who you are" Tony Award winner shares her amazing journey to success at the Women of Influence Luncheon  Yesterday, award-winning actress Viola Davis presented "The Hero's Path" to a sold out crowd at the 7th Annual Women of Influence Luncheon, presented by Florida Blue. Davis captured the audience with a personal account of her path from a troubled childhood to a successful professional and personal life. "The privilege of a lifetime is simply being who you are," she said. Davis left the crowd calling women to support one another "Encourage one another and don't demonize ambition."  Judith Lisi , President & CEO of The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, was selected as the recipient of the 2013 Woman of Influence Award. Under Lisi's leadership, The Straz Center has become a major presenting, producing and educating cultural institution that continues to provide a local economic impact of $100 million annually. Ms. Lisi has served on the boards of the Tampa Downtown Partnership and is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award from the International Society for the Performing Arts.

Hiring Our Heroes (HOH), an employment program through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is holding a special networking reception for military spouses on April 23rd in Tampa. In partnership with In Gear Career, the Chamber, and Tampa Electric, HOH aims to plant a seed for a regional network to help spouses connect with their local chamber, business and civic leaders. This event is geared towards military spouses who want to integrate into the community, to find work, serve on boards, volunteer, etc. Spouses will be able to trade business cards and get information on financial planning and interviewing, all within a casual environment.
