Emily Hill
Emily Hill

Even before Emily Hill was diagnosed with leukemia, she was an artist.  Since beginning her treatment in March 2012, she has become determined to use her talent to help others.  With passion Emily states, "I'd like to be a makeup artist so I can help people feel beautiful; make them feel nice on the inside.  I want to do something to help girls with cancer, who are less adantaged and in other countries."  Emily, age 14, has chosen not to wear a wig, even though she lost her hair from leukemia treatments.  "Just because you don't have hair, doesn't mean you aren't beautiful," says Emily.  "Beauty comes from within.  It means being kind and accepting everyone."  To get an early start on her career aspirations, Emily watches makeup videos on YouTube and practices on herself and others.  As a result of a hand decorating challenge from her neighbor, Abby, Emily spends time perfecting her current passion; creating art on fingernails.  She also likes to sketch.  Emily is a freshman at Webster Thomas High School.  She shares two miniatur schnauzers, Mable and Max, with her 12 year-old sister, Sara, and her parents Donna and Jeff.

Holiday Heroes

CURE Childhood Cancer Association will continue our holiday tradition of honoring the heroes in our lives with our Annual Holiday Heroes Campaign.  It is your chance to publically recognize those who have touched your life in special ways.  Perhaps it is someone who has shown great courage or lent a hand in the face of your family's crisis.  You can remember  a loved one or friend, or share a holiday greeting.  We will publish your Holiday Hero message in the Messenger Post newspapers throughout Wayne, Monroe, Ontario and Yates Counties in mid- December.  You can click here or go to http://holidayheroes2012.eventbrite.com for information about how to recognize your holiday hero.

CURE's Bereavement Group News
Next Monthly Meeting Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 7-8:30pm at CURE

CURE's bereavement group will not meet in November.  Instead a combined November/December meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 5, at 7pm.  Given the timing of the thanksgiving and December holidays, we hope that this meeting date will make it more convenient for those wishing to attend.  Discussion at the meeting will include strategies for surviving the holidays while grieving.

Meetings are warm and supportive.  Joan Reeves, a bereaved parent, co-facilitates the meetings with social worker Jade Giesey, and CURE parent advocate Linda Morrison.  Parents, Grandparents and friends are welcome to attend.  Reservations are not required.  For more information please contact Kiersten Kunick at 585-473-0180 or kiersten.kunick@curekidscancer.com.

ROC the Day

It's finally time to sign up for ROC the Day 2012! Visit www.ROCtheDay.org

to get started. Remember, you have until November 28 to finish your registration and edit your info.

If you're a ROC the Day veteran:

You can re-register with a pre-populated form. Edit whatever needs editing, and submit! It's that easy. If you're using a different bank account this year, please send us a new EFT form so that we can set you "live" on the site. You can edit your own info through November 28.

If you're a ROC the Day newbie:

Complete a registration form and send us your EFT form. Once we've had a chance to review your entry (up to 72 business hours), we'll either set you "live" on the site or contact you. You can edit your own info through November 28.

Start talking.

ROCstar donors told us they gave during ROC the Day mostly because they heard about the event from a not-for-profit, supported organizations in the past or saw advertising. We'll pick up the tab on advertising, but it's up to you to win over your own ROCstars. Get creative, and use the toolkit if you need help.

Questions?

We're here to help, but check out the FAQ first. Then call (585) 242-6450 or email info@ROCtheDay.org.

Good luck, and let's ROC!

Best,

The ROC the Day crew

P.S. Join the event on Facebook, and stay tuned for more info about an Ad Council Academy Session in mid-October.
