Greetings!

Even though winter is not quite ready to release its hold on us, everyone can enjoy a taste of spring at the Chicago Flower & Garden Show at Navy Pier.  Revel in all the wonderful sights and smells, particularly all the colors of spring.

If you're thinking of coming out to RFWP in March, give us a call at 815-338-7442 to check on conditions.  Early March  snow and cold leave most of the nursery impassable.  When the thaw finally arrives, there will be mud to contend with, so be sure to dress appropriately. Visit our facebook page for more up-to-date information.

RFWP staff is ready to assist you in selecting the best trees and shrubs for your garden. Please call 815-338-7442 to make an appointment to go out in the field to select larger trees. Be sure to bring photos and site plans.

Abies concolor 'Blue Cloak'

Abies concolor 'Blue Cloak' is a striking looking cultivar of Concolor Fir. The branches tend to angle downward and the needles have a powder blue tone. It is moderately slow-growing, adding about 4-5 feet every ten years and prefers full sun. Perfect as the centerpiece of any garden.

Abies concolor is native to western North America and is also commonly referred to as White Fir.  It is found in mountainous areas of the United States and a few isolated spots in northern Mexico. Numerous other cultivars are available.

50 Shades of Green

March 15-23, 2014

A fabulous way to welcome spring, the Chicago Flower & Garden Show  offers beauty and inspiration for all gardeners. Featured Garden #12 by Rich's Foxwillow Pines Nursery, Inc. will highlight 50 Shades of Green. With a myriad of greens, from moss, lime and sea green to olive, mint and forest green, RFWP showcases enchanting conifers. Other plants in hues of yellow, blue and red will punctuate the vast array of green. On display will be three separate conifer gardens, one featuring plants for shade, another accenting dwarf conifers, and a third with unusual plants for a sunny garden. This garden shows how dwarf conifers are perfect for smaller urban gardens, enhancing the plant palette with unique forms, textures and coning attributes.
