Where did summer go? The weather is starting to cool off, but we definitely still need some rain, so be sure to keep watering your plants until the ground freezes. We recommend a thorough watering once a week, the equivalent of an inch of rain. We are scheduling jobs, so if you have trees on order with us, we will be contacting you soon. Please call us at 815-338-7442 if you'd like to come out to tag trees. Bring photos and landscape plans so we can better help with plant selection.
Magnolia tripetala
If you've ever admired our large-leaved tropical looking magnolia, you'll be pleased to learn that we now have some small containers available for sale. The 1 gallon plants are about 18 inches tall and have fairly big leaves, though nothing like the 16-18" long ones on our big tree.
Magnolia tripetala, commonly called Umbrella Magnolia, prefers moist soils in part shade. In its native habitat it is an understory tree in mesic woods. It has a limited range in the southeastern states but it can grow in zone 5 gardens.

Soil Quality for Conifers

Not all projects have ideal conditions, but good drainage is essential to guarantee the success of most plantings.
