October Shotgun, Rifle Weekend Events Fill Talladega Marksmanship Park



TALLADEGA, Ala. - On Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama was a busy place - full of learning and competitive opportunities for marksmen of a variety of disciplines.

Supporting a growing number of shotgun events over the last year, Talladega stood as the venue for the Harvester Christian Shotgun Sporting Clays Shoot. A total of 64 marksmen from eight middle school and high school private Christian academies involved within the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association fired in the event.


CMP Junior Rifle Campers Learn Olympic-Style Training During 2016 Camps


With the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro adding an extra element of athletic prowess and national pride to the year, the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) Junior Rifle Camps took the opportunity to teach its participants corresponding lessons on mental preparedness and fundamental skills - the same training given to two former campers who made their debut at this year's Olympic Games.

 
Registration Open For CMP's Gary Anderson Invitational Junior Air Rifle Match 

Junior air rifle marksmen of all experience levels are invited to participate in one of the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) most popular air gun events of the year, the Gary Anderson Invitational (GAI). This year's event will be held Dec. 2-3 at the newly renovated CMP South Competition Center in Anniston, Ala., and Dec. 3 at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Camp Perry, Ohio.
 
 
Hurry! One Month Left to Register for CMP's Talladega 600


TALLADEGA, Ala. - There's still time to sign up for The Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) Talladega 600 - an event that will become a "Southern Classic" for pistol, shotgun and rifle enthusiasts. The event begins Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, and concludes Sunday, Dec. 11, at CMP's Talladega Marksmanship Park.

Outdoors Women: Shoot like a girl? You bet! These girls are becoming top shots - By Susan Guynn, The Frederick News-Post - The Frederick County 4-H Fire Power shooting sports club is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18. The club formed in 2012 with about 100 members, and still has a roster hovering around 100. Safety and education are priorities in each of the six main disciplines for members to learn and practice, including archery, rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, pistol, and hunting and wildlife education. Biathletes show off marksmanship skills - Terrace, B.C.  - The Terrace Rod & Gun Club hosted the 2016 Mountain Bike Biathlon competition on October 15. Although a smaller group of participants than in previous competitions, the athletes demonstrated improved racing and marksmanship skills. In the category for ages 9-10, first place went to Josiah Peden. Joseph Cote followed in second place. Nate Cote finished in third place. Joseph actually had the best bike racing time, but, unfortunately, he had the only missed target (a 15 second penalty) in the 9-10 year old group. Read the complete article.

Garand & Modern Military Match at Petrarca Range. The CMP will host a Garand & Modern Military Match at Petrarca Range with the CMP Electronic Targets on Saturday, November 12th. The entry fee is $40 with relays starting at 9:30am. Six relays will be fired. This match will be held the same day as the Friends of Camp Perry Snowflake Shoot, which begins at 9am. Come spend the day at Camp Perry and shoot both matches!

2017 CMP Competition Rules. The CMP invites pistol and rifle shooters, match officials and other concerned persons to forward their comments and concerns regarding current CMP competition rules and any recommendations they have for rule changes or clarifications to competitions@thecmp.org. Comments should be received not later than 21 November 2016. The CMP Rules Committee and staff will review those comments and then confirm or adjust the new rules before they go into effect on 1 January 2017.

Marksmanship Nights at Petrarca Range, held on Mondays, from 10:00AM - 5:00PM. JROTC Air Rifle Postal Registration Open. The 2016-2017 JROTC Postal Competition officially opened on Sept. 26th for young cadets in Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force JROTC programs who are interested in competing in this three-position air rifle match with other talented juniors across the nation. Last year, over 7,000 juniors competed in the match that serves as the first step on the road to Nationals. CMP State Directors. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. Anniston's Dixie Double
-The 60 shot international air rifle and air pistol competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 4-6 November 2016, with the first relay beginning at 0800 Saturday and the second relay at 1000. On Sunday the relay times will remain the same, although shooters will switch relays. There will be a Final at the conclusion of the matches on Saturday and Sunday. Pre-registration is required for the matches. All events will be held at the CMP Competition Center South in Anniston AL, featuring 80 MEGAlink electronic targets. On Saturday, after the final, there will be an optional target sprint event. This event will determine who get to walk the $1000 prize table first, which will be awarded during the dinner on Saturday. Entry Fee's are $50 per person. Visit our website to register.



The Gary Anderson Invitational will be held at both the CMP Competition Center - South, and the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, located at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio. The National Three Position Air Rifle Council sanctions this three-position air rifle invitational as an open CMP Cup match. The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers. The program consists of Air Rifle, Air Pistol, and Para-Air Rifle/Air Pistol events.
 

CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 500-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park
is the first of its kind in the country and is one of the most sophisticated in the world - housing electronic targets similar to those used in the CMP air gun ranges. Several events have been planned at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:

Training Workshop.
