New Tradition Set at Well-attended Inaugural New England CMP Games


JERICHO, Vt. - Those who missed the inaugural New England Games passed up an incredible opportunity for leisurely competition, social amusement and unforgettable marksmanship memories below the beautiful Vermont mountains, Sept. 14-18, 2016. An eager group of over 150 rifle and pistol competitors arrived at the Camp Ethan Allen Training Site (CEATS) to fire in the latest installment to the growing number of the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) travel matches. 


Former Olympian Wins AiR Challenge at National Match Air Rifle Event


CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Former Olympian SGT Nick Mowrer, 27, rose victorious during the AiR 15 Challenge, out-shooting 20 other competitors in the Super Final Shoot Off with an overall score of 246.1. This was his first time competing in the event.

Improving Marksmanship: Call Your Shots - By George Harris, Shooting Illustrated - "Calling your shot" is an old phrase used to describe a shooter's ability to successfully tell where their shot/shots hit the target(s) before even looking downrange to verify the fruits of their labor. This results from the shooter's mental snapshot of their sight picture (their sights in relation to the target) at the moment the bullet exits the muzzle, each time a shot is fired. The New Gold Standard: Ginny Thrasher - By John Parker, Shooting Sports USA - Even before she became a gold medalist, Ginny Thrasher usually had a big impact at the matches she participated in. The 19 year-old West Virginia University (WVU) sophomore shocked the shooting world in August, when she won the women's 10-meter air rifle competition during the Rio Olympics-winning the first gold medal at this year's Games. News from the CMP 


2017 CMP Competition Rules. The CMP invites pistol and rifle shooters, match officials and other concerned persons to forward their comments and concerns regarding current CMP competition rules and any recommendations they have for rule changes or clarifications to competitions@thecmp.org. Comments should be received not later than 21 November 2016. The CMP Rules Committee and staff will review those comments and then confirm or adjust the new rules before they go into effect on 1 January 2017.

 
 
The CMP South Store located in Anniston, Alabama, will re-open at its new location on Thursday, October 6th. The South Store will be located at 1470 Sentinel Drive, the same building as the CMP South Competition Center. Hours will remain the same: Thursday - Saturday, 8:00AM - 3:00PM.

JROTC Air Rifle Postal Registration Open. The 2016-2017 JROTC Postal Competition officially opened on Sept. 26th for young cadets in Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force JROTC programs who are interested in competing in this three-position air rifle match with other talented juniors across the nation. Last year, over 7,000 juniors competed in the match that serves as the first step on the road to Nationals. CMP State Directors. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. The CMP is currently taking applications for the following states: DE, LA, MT, NJ, ND, NH, NV, and WI. Anniston's Dixie Double
-The 60 shot international air rifle and air pistol competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 4-6 November 2016, with the first relay beginning at 0800 Saturday and the second relay at 1000. On Sunday the relay times will remain the same, although shooters will switch relays. There will be a Final at the conclusion of the matches on Saturday and Sunday. Pre-registration is required for the matches. All events will be held at the CMP Competition Center South in Anniston AL, featuring 80 MEGAlink electronic targets. On Saturday, after the final, there will be an optional target sprint event. This event will determine who get to walk the $1000 prize table first, which will be awarded during the dinner on Saturday. Entry Fee's are $50 per person. Visit our website to register.



The Gary Anderson Invitational will be held at both the CMP Competition Center - South, and the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, located at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio. The National Three Position Air Rifle Council sanctions this three-position air rifle invitational as an open CMP Cup match. USA Shooting Coach Academy - USAS Coach Academy has scheduled an Advanced Rifle Coach ground course at the Ole Mill Range Complex in Griffin GA on 27-30 October. Griffin GA is 31.5 miles South of the Atlanta airport.

To be eligible to attend the Advanced Rifle Coach ground course, a coach must complete all the prerequisite online courses for the Advanced Rifle Coach certification program. The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 500-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park

CMP Garand-Springfield-Military Master Instructor
Training Workshop. Experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as "Master Instructors" to teach CMP-Sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a 2016 CMP Master Instructor Training Workshop. 2016 dates and locations are:

 The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches. The matches will take place on the dates listed below at the CMP's Marksmanship Centers North and South. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match. Rental equipment is available for the monthly matches for a small fee.
