CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Fathers and sons was the theme of the CMP Games Matches at the 2016 National Matches. The paternal pairings were prevalent in both the Vintage Sniper and Carbine Matches, as many left with medals and top honors. In the Vintage Sniper Match, the team of Yogi and Boo Boo fired a score of 396-13x to become the overall winners. Team members were Wesley Fentress, 31, and Silas Fentress, 66, both of Oklahoma City, OK. The competition once again proved to be one of the most sought-after events of the matches - completely filled to capacity and wait-listed. |

New Electronic Gun Range Open to Public at Camp Perry

CAMP PERRY, Ohio - The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is pleased to introduce 10 innovative electronic targets available for Open Public Shooting at Camp Perry. Rifle and pistol marksmen will now have the chance to fire towards the future of competitive shooting from the place that has been a pinnacle of marksmanship for over 100 years. Whether experienced or just beginning, the ground-breaking targets are designed with the ability to enhance skills and excite spectators of all ages.

The National 4-H Shooting Sports competition was held in Grand Island, Neb., June 26 through July 1. Attending were teams representing 36 states and made up of 685 participants competing in eight disciplines. The air rifle team from San Juan County, N.M., competed with 21 other teams (93 competitors) from across the country.

Ashland Lake Gun Club Highpower Director John Hill presents M-1s For Vets Director J. J. O'Shea a check for $1468 at Camp Perry on July 26, 2016. The money was raised by Ashland Lake's members from a CMP sanctioned M-1s For Vets Benefit Garand Match and Dinner back in June. O'Shea said it's donations like this that keeps the program going to get injured veterans back into the shooting sports.
California Grizzlies shooters break records - By Connie Taylor, The Union Democrat - California Grizzlies junior shooters broke a pair of national records and recorded numerous first-place finishes over a two-week stretch, July 21-Aug. 4, in the Civilian Marksmanship Program's National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. About 50 Californians, including about half from the Mother Lode, competed in the over century old shooting festival that is put on in partnership with the Ohio National Guard and National Rifle Association. The Oklahoma City Gun Club will host an M1 For Vets fundraiser on August 28th, 2016. The days two events will consist of a CMP-sanctioned John C. Garand Match followed by a .30 Caliber Match based on the President's Match with sighting shots for any As-Issued, Match-conditioned, or NRA Match Rifle with a .30 Caliber bore. Raffle items have been donated Boyd's Gunstocks, Redding Reloading, and Sierra Bullets. T-shirts will also be available for purchase. Proceeds from the matches, raffle, and T-shirt sales will go to The M1 For Vets Project, a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to providing Combat Injured Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Global War on Terror the opportunity to compete in National, Regional, and Local marksmanship competition and training. Join us Wednesday & Thursday's from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm and Saturday's from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. The classes will be in 1 hour segments with the 1st hour being safety and firearms handling and 2nd hour as hands on practical application conducted on ranges 2 & 4. This education of firearms safety, firearms handling and application will help you to become a safer firearms owner and will help the Talladega Marksmanship Park to be a safe and fun place for all marksman. New and experienced shooters are welcome. Participants will need to bring their own firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection. Fee: $20.00 per person. USA Shooting Coach Academy - USAS Coach Academy has scheduled an Advanced Rifle Coach ground course at the Ole Mill Range Complex in Griffin GA on 27-30 October. Griffin GA is 31.5 miles South of the Atlanta airport.
To be eligible to attend the Advanced Rifle Coach ground course, a coach must complete all the prerequisite online courses for the Advanced Rifle Coach certification program. Wednesday Mornings - Beginners Handgun Safety & Handling Course - Creedmoor Sports in conjunction with the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are offering a beginners handgun safety and handling class designed to provide the beginner or novice with a basic understanding of handgun safety, operation, loading and firing. The class is four hours in duration consisting of two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of range time. Class begins at 9 am in the Clubhouse. The student will learn how to handle the handgun in a safe manner, how to carry it, how to load and unload it, and how to fire the handgun in a controlled environment. Each student will fire fifty rounds at a target 15 feet away. Call 256-474-4408, ext. 749 for information and/or to register for classes.
Aug 13 - Sporting Clays Tournament. This is an NSCA registered shoot. 100 round sporting clays course. Entry fee $50 for adults, $25 for juniors. $10 for back to class and Lewis options. Golf Carts can be rented for $10+tax. You may reserve a golf cart by calling 256-474-4408 ext 414 or 460 and pre-paying for the cart. Registration starts at 9:00 am, the last flight will go out at 5:00 pm. European rotation will be used.
Aug 27/Sept 24/Nov 26 - IDPA - The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is the governing body of a shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. One of the unique facets of this sport is that it is geared toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun, challenging and rewarding for the experienced shooter. The founders developed the sport so that practical gear and practical guns may be used competitively. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitive. The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship. "Competition only" equipment is not permitted in this sport. For more information visit http://www.idpa.com/. The Talladega Marksmanship Park's IDPA matches are held every 4th Saturday of the month at 9:00 am. The cost to fire in this match is $20. Aug 13/Sept 10 - 3-Gun Match - The 3 Gun match at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is held on Saturdays at 9am. The cost of the match will be $30.00. There will be 5 stages. You will need a minimum of 165 rounds to complete the match. All competitors, visitors and spectators must stop at the main Club House, which is directly in front when you pull in. NO GUNS are allowed in the Clubhouse. CMP will be collecting the entry fee for the match and handling registration where you will sign the CMP Liability Agreement. There will also be a 15 minute safety briefing after which you will return to your car and drive to the action pistol bays (Range 5) where everyone will "gear up". If you miss the Safety briefing you will not be allowed to shoot. Please be registered by 8:30am. Shooting will start at 9:00 sharp. Oct 2 - Steel Challenge - The Steel Challenge "SCSA" is an entry level into Shooting competition as well as the "Drag Racing" of all of the shooting sports. The match consist of 5 stages where steel plates are arranged by different sizes and distances. The objective is to shoot 5 plates as fast as you can while being timed with a timer. Each stage consist of 5 strings of the same course and the slowest of your 5 tries will be discarded and will not factor into your score. There are several classes from kids to super seniors and everything in between. There is a class for everyone regardless of your skill level. CMP Garand-Springfield-Military Master Instructor
Training Workshop. After months of careful preparation, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) proudly introduces a new installment to its popular travel games - the New England CMP Games, to be held September 14-18, 2016, in Jericho, VT.
The New England Games will take place at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site and is hosted by the Vermont State Rifle and Pistol Association, along with the Burlington Rifle and Pistol Club. A variety of matches will be fired during the event that will accommodate both rifle and pistol, new and experienced marksmen alike.
