CMP Makes History at Camp Perry During New Range Dedication
|
CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Since 1907, Camp Perry has been a cultivator of history. It began as the site of the largest and best equipped rifle and pistol ranges in the world, and today, it has continued that tradition as the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and the Ohio National Guard unveiled its new groundbreaking addition. Petrarca Range will now be home to 10 state-of-the-art outdoor electronic targets, which are at the forefront of the future of marksmanship. Capable of adapting to rifle, pistol and smallbore shooting, the target technology is provided by Kongsberg Target Systems (KTS), with equipment marketed by CMP Targets.

National Match Competitor Fires Rare Pistol Pertinent to CMP History
|
CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Will Murray, 39, of Charleston, S.C., was an elated and wide-eyed visitor to Camp Perry during the 2016 National Trophy Pistol Matches. His first time ever attending the event, he had never even competed in a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) competition in his life yet still arrived with a fascinating piece of its past - one that heralded what the organization is today. As an assistant coach for the Citadel Pistol Shooting team, which trains a gaggle of junior marksmen throughout the year, Will is vastly familiar with the sport of shooting and the reputation of the National Matches, but he had always been unable to make the trip during the summer to the "World Series" of marksmanship. "I've been trying to get here for about 15 years," he said with a grin.

Brianna and Jace recently competed in the Civilian Marksmanship Program's National and Junior Olympic three-position air rifle championships in Camp Perry, Ohio. Read the complete article.
