First Pistol Events Fired at 2016 National Trophy Matches at Camp Perry
|
CAMP PERRY, Ohio - On July 11, the 2016 National Trophy Pistol Matches officially kicked off with an incredible show of historic tributes and the rise of today's marksmanship talent on the ranges of Camp Perry. It all began with the traditional First Shot Ceremony, held this year at Shooters' Memorial Plaza in front of Rodriguez Range. The 122nd Army Band played to the crowd as a WWII Navy TBM Avenger, B-25 bomber and B-17 bomber soared overhead, with bomb bay doors open. Pyrotechnic "bombs" exploded in the range in front of the stands - producing a cloud of smoke and resonating applause.

CMP Supports 4-H Shooting Sports. The CMP annually supports 4-H Shooting Sports. Below are Thank Yous from State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinators. Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports: Every year, our state competition for nine to 18 year olds grows. In September 2015, Kentucky hosted another state competition with 1,200 youth participating in this two-day event. During this event, we had 275 compete in the Sport Rifle category. Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports also offers the .22 sport rifle as a discipline at our state competition. In our 2015 state competition, we had a total of 275 participants in this discipline: 9-11 years = 100 shooters; 12-14 years = 105 shooters; 15-18 years = 70 shooters. The CMP donation, as always, was used to purchase targets and other range safety and organization tools for this competition. Funds to continue to offer this type of event are secured through donations from organizations such as the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). Our 4-H Shooting Sports program exists because of the contributions of organizations such as CMP. We appreciate your commitment to Kentucky's Youth Programs.

She started deer hunting with grandpa; now she's shooting for Team USA - By Joon Lee, The Washington Post - She started deer hunting with grandpa; now she's shooting for Team USA - By Joon Lee, The Washington Post - Ginny Thrasher once dreamed of being an Olympic figure skater. While she glided up and down the ice at Fairfax Ice Arena, Thrasher thought about one day representing the United States on one of the world's biggest stages. But when ninth grade came around, Thrasher realized her route to a gold medal probably wasn't in skating. "To be honest, I was never very good at it," Thrasher said. But this August, Thrasher, 19, will represent the United States as the youngest shooter on the 15-member Olympic rifle team. As a freshman at West Virginia, she won national titles in both air rifle and small-bore during the NCAA championships in March. Then on April 4, she was named to the U.S. team headed to Rio.
