For over 35 years, Springfield Armory has been a key figure at the National Matches at Camp Perry - providing countless numbers of donations to commendable competitors, year after year. But this year, at the 2016 National Trophy Pistol Matches, the company will be outdoing themselves with their most incredible donation yet. Springfield Armory will potentially donate up to 20 new Springfield XD(M)® 5.25" pistols during the President's Pistol Match on July 17, to competitors who place in the Top 100 (President's 100) and fire the 20 highest scores using a Springfield XD® or XD(M)® during the match. Competitors MUST have competed with a Springfield XD® or XD(M)® in order to receive an XD(M) 5.25".

In celebration of the Civilian Marksmanship Program's 20-Year Anniversary, the CMP would like to invite previous civilian Pistol and Rifle Distinguished competitors who were NOT presented their Distinguished Badges onstage to be formally presented with their badges during the 2016 National Match Award Ceremonies. This is only for civilians who earned a badge prior to the 2015 Nationals Matches and were never presented his/her badge onstage.

CMP Staffers Recall Incomparable Experiences at 2016 World Cup Event in Bangkok-Part 2 |
In March 2016, CMP staff members Chance Cover and Elijah Ellis traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to compete in the World Cup Men's Three-Position Competition. Each have an extensive background in shooting and were eager to compete at the prestigious event. Ellis was a member of the University of Kentucky rifle ream from 2011-2015. His past rifle accolades include six state championships, four national championships, five National Records and over 100 wins in local, regional and sectional matches. While at Kentucky, he was an individual qualifier for smallbore at the 2013 NCAA National Championships, Honorable Mention for All-American Air Rifle Team 2012-2013 season, GARC All-Conference Second Team Air Rifle 2014, All-American Second Team Air Rifle 2014 and GARC All-Conference Honorable Mention Air Rifle 2015.

For some juniors, moving their shooting careers from high school into college is an indispensable goal. It's the chance to compete at an even higher level of competition, while also gaining a worthwhile and valuable education. But a lot of juniors, coaches and parents have absolutely no idea where to start in getting their athletes onto college teams - or what to expect when they get there. The following series highlights questions asked of current college student athletes and coaches - some of whom are alumni of the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The series will cover how juniors can gain college attention, what they can expect in college as both athletes and students, as well as the sort of qualities coaches look for in their athletes - answered by those with first-hand experience. Soldiers plan to win at Air Olympic Trials after smallbore bids - Story by Brenda Rolin, DVIDS - Sgt. 1st Class James Henderson, U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, aims downrange during the 2016 USA Shooting (USAS) Smallbore Olympic Trials April 1-8. Henderson will also compete in the air pistol event at the USAS Air Olympic Trials in June. "It's bittersweet, because I was hoping to come out of the Smallbore Trials knowing I'm on the Olympic Team," said Staff Sgt. George Norton, who won the men's three-position rifle event. NC high school Navy JROTC opens gun range - By Mikaya Thurmond, WDTN.com - SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WRAL) - Members of the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at North Carolina's Smithfield-Selma High School can now practice their marksmanship without having to leave campus. The NJROTC built a 1,200-square-foot, six-lane, indoor shooting range at the school over five months and began using the facility last week. Read the complete article.

National Three-Position Air Rifle Council Seeks Rulebook Suggestions. The National Three-Position Air Rifle Council, the governing body for nearly all three-position air rifle competitions in the USA, will meet in the summer of 2016 to review and issue a new edition of their rulebook, the "2016-2018 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules." In order to provide fair, up-to-date rules for three-position air rifle competitions, the Council requests that coaches, athletes, parents and match sponsors who have suggestions or recommendations regarding possible changes for the next National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules submit those changes for National Council consideration. To submit suggested changes to the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules, email them to 3PAR@TheCMP.org NO LATER than June 1, 2016.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program's Talladega Marksmanship Park is looking for volunteers to assist with an American Marksman Regional Event in July. American Marksman is a new televised match open to amateur shooters. With a low entry fee and no professionals allowed, this unique competition will give all shooters the chance to compete. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park has been chosen as a host for a Regional level match on 22-24 July. We are excited to participate in this unique televised match. 2016 Junior Air Rifle Camps & Clinics - Each summer the Civilian Marksmanship Program sponsors a popular series of Junior Air Rifle Camps and Clinics to teach intermediate and advanced rifle marksmanship skills to junior shooters and their adult leaders. Visit our website for full schedule.
National Match Camp Perry Housing. Camp Perry is an Ohio National Guard post that offers huts (4-person), cottage housing, barracks and RV Spaces for competitors during the National Matches. All Camp Perry housing is managed by the Adjutant General's Department, State of Ohio, not the CMP or NRA. There is a high demand for housing during National Trophy Matches so it is essential to make housing arrangements early if you wish to stay on base at Camp Perry. Wednesday Mornings - Beginners Handgun Safety Course - Creedmoor Sports in conjunction with the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are offering a beginners handgun safety and handling class designed to provide the beginner or novice with a basic understanding of handgun safety, operation, loading and firing. The class is four hours in duration consisting of two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of range time. Class begins at 9 am in the Clubhouse. The student will learn how to handle the handgun in a safe manner, how to carry it, how to load and unload it, and how to fire the handgun in a controlled environment. Each student will fire fifty rounds at a target 15 feet away. Call 256-474-0049 for information and/or to register for classes.
April 23 - IDPA - This is a practical shooting event designed around handguns and gear commonly used for concealed carry and self-defense purposes. We welcome everyone to come out and participate. April 24 - Steel Challenge Practice - This is an organized event for those interested in practicing steel challenge, or learning more about steel challenge matches. From 1:00-5:00 the steel challenge stages will be set up for practice only. There will be safety officers to run timers for shooters. Entry fee for the steel challenge practice is $12.50 for the day. (This rate is only available for the organized steel challenge practice, not general access to range 5).
May 14/June 11 - 3-Gun Match - The 3 Gun match at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is held on Saturdays at 9am. The cost of the match will be $30.00. There will be 5 stages. You will need a minimum of 165 rounds to complete the match. All competitors, visitors and spectators must stop at the main Club House, which is directly in front when you pull in. NO GUNS are allowed in the Clubhouse. CMP will be collecting the entry fee for the match and handling registration where you will sign the CMP Liability Agreement. There will also be a 15 minute safety briefing after which you will return to your car and drive to the action pistol bays (Range 5) where everyone will "gear up". If you miss the Safety briefing you will not be allowed to shoot. Please be registered by 8:30am. Shooting will start at 9:00 sharp. June 5 - Steel Challenge - The Steel Challenge "SCSA" is an entry level into Shooting competition as well as the "Drag Racing" of all of the shooting sports. The match consist of 5 stages where steel plates are arranged by different sizes and distances. The objective is to shoot 5 plates as fast as you can while being timed with a timer. Each stage consist of 5 strings of the same course and the slowest of your 5 tries will be discarded and will not factor into your score. There are several classes from kids to super seniors and everything in between. There is a class for everyone regardless of your skill level. The National Matches are fired at Camp Perry, Ohio, six miles west of Port Clinton, during the months of July and August. The 2016 Match Schedule Events will include the John C. Garand, President's Rifle, Hearst Doubles, Vintage Sniper, as well as a multitude of prestigious pistol events. This year also marks the 20th Anniversary of the CMP, so come help us celebrate!
New this year, the CMP will introduce its Legacy Series: an extra week highlighting an assortment of competitions that feature both vintage and modern military rifles. Open Public Shooting Evenings at CMP Marksmanship Centers.
