East Coweta Recaptures Title at 2016 JROTC National Championship
CAMP PERRY, OH - In precision action during the 2016 JROTC National Championship, Marine Corps teams took first and third place, with East Coweta High School in Georgia earning top honors for the second year in a row. Recording an overall aggregate score of 4694-307x, the team also set a Marine Corps and Overall National Record for recording a score of 2356-165x. "It's pretty amazing," said East Coweta coach, Maj. Pete Merrill. "Last year we won the National Championship, and I graduated three seniors, so this year was pretty unexpected."
Top Junior Air Rifle Clubs to Compete in CMP Regionals

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will kick off the next phase of the 2016 CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Competition with the Regional Championships held in Ohio, Alabama and Utah in March and April. Top junior marksmen involved in 4-H, Scouts, American Legion, club or JROTC air rifle programs will meet on the firing line to determine who will move on to the final stage of the Championships.
CMP Club News: Four Corners Rod and Gun Club

On Feb. 20, the Four Corners Rod and Gun Club in Salem, Ore., held the 2016 CMP Air Rifle JOSC. During the match, 27 Precision and Sporter Juniors competed for awards and EIC points. The Lebanon High School JROTC Sporter team shot an aggregate score of 2221-91x, coming within four points of setting a new record in the 3P match. Redmond High School took first in the Precision Match. Jasmine Wiles, Lara Lewis and Alexander Eikelenboom from Lebanon took the top three individual places in Sporter, as Raquel Coburn, Kristen Derting of CAJRC took first and second, respectively, and Timothy Berry from Redmond took third in the Precision Match. Many thanks to the Four Corners Rod and Gun Club for their generous use of their range during this competition.

Bedford High School's rifle team fosters respect for firearms - By Joy Richard, Wicked Local Lancaster - Concord, MA - With an undefeated season behind them, members of the Bedford High School rifle team and coach Gerald Peters talk sportsmanship and the safety and training that goes into every season. Tucked underground on the BHS campus, the Bucs' rifle team has excelled at marksmanship, finishing first in the Metropolitan Rifle League with a record of 7-0 in the 2016 season. The team also earned the highest average point total in the league, with 956.6 points. People might not even know the team exists, or raise an eyebrow at the idea of marksmanship in a high school, but Peters, team members and one parent said safety and responsibility rank No. 1 on the range. Combat Pistol Pop Up Target Shoot - March 26th - The Friends of Camp Perry along with the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association will hold a Combat Pistol Pop Up Target Shoot on Saturday March 26, 2016 at the Combat Pistol Range on Camp Perry, in Port Clinton, Ohio. Shooting will start at 9AM and run until there are no more shooters or 4PM, whichever comes first. Each relay will shoot 40 rounds at 40 targets using no larger than .45ACP ammunition. NO RIFLE CALIBER FIREARMS WILL BE ALLOWED! Food and beverages will be available. Registration starts at 8 AM. First relay is $30.00 donation (includes membership in FoCP). CMP Electronic Targets at CMP Games - Oklahoma. The electronic targets are installed and tested at the Oklahoma City Gun Club's rifle range. There's still time to get registered for the Oklahoma CMP Games held 6-10 April! The CMP Games - Oklahoma will begin with Small Arms Firing School and the M16 Match on April 6. An EIC Rifle Match will take place on April 7 followed by three days (four matches total, two fired on Saturday) of Garand/Springfield/Vintage & Modern Military Matches, a Carbine Match and a Vintage Sniper Match. There will also be a total of six Pistol Matches including the brand new CMP .22 Rimfire Pistol EIC Match, Military & Police Service Pistol Match, Pistol Team Match (2-Man), and an EIC Pistol Match. 2016 U.S. Service Rifle Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) in Manorville, NY. The 2016 SAFS will be held at the Peconic River Sportsman's Club in Manorville, NY on April 23 and 24. This is a two day program which will serve as an introduction to High Power Rifle Competition. 2016 marks the 27'h year that this program has been provided. All lead instructors are members of the NYSRPA Service Rifle Team and many are nationally ranked competitors. If you have an interest in competitive rifle shooting then this is the course to take. All students will receive "one-on-one" training by an experienced competitor. This program is approved by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). National Match Camp Perry Housing. Camp Perry is an Ohio National Guard post that offers huts (4-person), cottage housing, barracks and RV Spaces for competitors during the National Matches. All Camp Perry housing is managed by the Adjutant General's Department, State of Ohio, not the CMP or NRA. There is a high demand for housing during National Trophy Matches so it is essential to make housing arrangements early if you wish to stay on base at Camp Perry. All junior teams must be in good standing with the CMP in order make reservations. Contact Vera Snyder at the CMP, vsnyder@thecmp.org to update your CMP Club Affiliation status.

The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers. The program consists of Air Rifle, Air Pistol, and Para-Air Rifle/Air Pistol events.


CMP Club Annual Reports.  CMP Affiliated Clubs, State Associations and MOUs are encouraged to visit http://thecmp.org/clubs/club-annual-reports/ to complete an annual Club Renewal and Activity Report to renew their affiliation with the CMP. The Club Activity Report requests current data about CMP Affiliated Clubs and information about the club's activities during the calendar year 2015. Information reported is used to determine the organization's eligibility for CMP programs as well as to evaluate and develop CMP programs. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 500-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park
is the first of its kind in the country and is one of the most sophisticated in the world - housing electronic targets similar to those used in the CMP air gun ranges. Several events have been planned at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:

Wednesday Mornings - Beginners Handgun Safety Course - Creedmoor Sports in conjunction with the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are offering a beginners handgun safety and handling class designed to provide the beginner or novice with a basic understanding of handgun safety, operation, loading and firing. The class is four hours in duration consisting of two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of range time. Class begins at 9 am in the Clubhouse. The student will learn how to handle the handgun in a safe manner, how to carry it, how to load and unload it, and how to fire the handgun in a controlled environment. Each student will fire fifty rounds at a target 15 feet away. Call 256-474-0049 for information and/or to register for classes. 

March 26 - IDPA - This is a practical shooting event designed around handguns and gear commonly used for concealed carry and self-defense purposes. We welcome everyone to come out and participate. If you have questions about anything either message shall@thecmp.org or email Match Director Kyle Adomavicious at Kyle.adomavicius@gmail.com. Registration 8:00-8:30 CST. If this is your first time at CMP or not preregistered, you should consider making it closer to 8:00 CST. Shooters meeting at Range 5 at 9:00 CST.

April 3 - Steel Challenge - The Steel Challenge "SCSA" is an entry level into Shooting competition as well as the "Drag Racing" of all of the shooting sports. The match consist of 5 stages where steel plates are arranged by different sizes and distances. The objective is to shoot 5 plates as fast as you can while being timed with a timer. Each stage consist of 5 strings of the same course and the slowest of your 5 tries will be discarded and will not factor into your score. There are several classes from kids to super seniors and everything in between. There is a class for everyone regardless of your skill level. April 9 - 3-Gun Match - The 3 Gun match at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is Saturday, April 9th, at 9am. The cost of the match will be $30.00. There will be 5 stages. You will need a minimum of 165 rounds to complete the match. All competitors, visitors and spectators must stop at the main Club House, which is directly in front when you pull in. NO GUNS are allowed in the Clubhouse. CMP will be collecting the entry fee for the match and handling registration where you will sign the CMP Liability Agreement. There will also be a 15 minute safety briefing after which you will return to your car and drive to the action pistol bays (Range 5) where everyone will "gear up". If you miss the Safety briefing you will not be allowed to shoot. Please be registered by 8:30am. Shooting will start at 9:00 sharp. If you have any questions you can email talladega3gun@gmail.com.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches. The matches will take place on the dates listed below at the CMP's Marksmanship Centers North and South. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match. Open Public Shooting Evenings at CMP Marksmanship Centers.
